b. 6/12/1844 Keeseville, NY, d. 11/7/1915, Fair Haven, VT. Adolphus Bonville is my second great granduncle. His brother Edward is my second great grandfather. 'DISTINGUISHED SERVICE' -- Adolphus Bonville served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted on January 7, 1862 as a 17-year old Private in the 7th Vermont Infantry, Company 'C'. He served for over four years before being 'mustered out' with the entire 7th Vermont Infantry on March 14, 1866 at Brownsville, Texas. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on July 1, 1864, and then to the rank of Sergeant on November 18, 1864. Adolphus Bonville attended a reunion of the 7th Vermont Infantry held in 1883. He served as Post Commander of J. H. Boswith, Post No 53 (GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC), in Fairhaven. From the website: 'Its officers are as follows: A. BONVILLE, commander; D. J. b. 7/15/1846 Keeseville, NY, d. 5/12/1912, Fair Haven, VT. William Bonville was my second great granduncle. His brother Edward was my second great grandfather. William Bonville, who also went by the name Joseph Bonville, fought alongside his older brother Adolphus in the 7th Vermont Infantry in the Civil War. He enlisted on January 9, 1865 as an 18-year old Private. Initially assigned to a New York Regiment, he deserted to join his older brother in the Vermont 7th Infantry. No evidence of any military conviction for desertion is available. He was discharged from the Infantry on October 28, 1865 for reasons of disability. He later applied for a Civil War Pension, claiming Invalid Status in an application dated February 28, 1879.

Jamin Ballou (1842-1934) was the older brother of Luman. The two served together in Co. D, 7th Regt. in Pensacola, New Orleans and Brownsville. A Dorset boy before enlistment, he later m. Florence Lenora Town and they moved to New Hampton, N.H. They had one d., Celia, who m. Charles Edwin Paige.

L.A. Ballou was my maternal great-grandfather. He served with his brother Jamin Ballou, who was a Corporal in Co. D, 7th Regt., and with his very close friend Charles A. Roberts. Luman Ballou''s war-time diaries have been posted at www.vermontcivilwar.org.

I recently found my ancestor through a geneologist in CA. I don't know anything more about him except his rank, what unit and company he was in as well as when he enlisted, re-enlisted and was discharged. I would like to find out more about him, hopefully find photos or letters he wrote.

He enlisted January 10, 1862 and mustered out March 14, 1866 at Brownsville, TX.

My 2nd great grandfather. Son of Pvt. Samuel A. Bailey, Co. E, 8th Vermont Infantry. Captured at Battle of Spanish Fort, Alabama during the Mobile Campaign of 1865.

Died of disease on 29 Sep 1862 at New Orleans, Louisiana
