3rd Wisconsin Cavalry

Mustered out after Vickburg Campaign

Cassville, 1863-65

I am not a direct descendant of George Barrington. I am the secretary/archivist for the family association for the descendants of William and Loveda Alcock Barrington. He died in service before he married or had children. He died in the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) where he is buried. He had 2 other brothers from Wisconsin who served in the Civil War: Richard, Co. F, 12th Wisconsin Infantry; and William ''Rebel Bill'' who was stuck behind the lines in Tennessee while there selling horses, enlisted in the 18th Mississippi in Virginia, was wounded at Gettysburg, imprisoned by the Union, escaped from prison in Jan. 1864, and walked back to Wisconsin.

Enlisted as a Private on 26 August 1862 at the age of 24. Mustered out on 19 June 1865.

Frank Scherer was my maternal great great grandfather's brother. He played the bugle and was also part of the Madison Brass Band with his brothers prior to his death in 1871.

Later assigned to reorganized company E as a Bugler.

Enlisted in Milford, WI as a Corporal on December 10, 1861. Mustered out on February 14, 1865.

Enlisted in Portland, WI on February 24, 1862. Mustered out on March 2, 1865.

Enlisted as a Wagoner on 31 December 1861. Mustered out on 15 July 1865.
