Alexander Burns Pope and Benjamin Franklin Pope of the 22WI INF were brothers from Walworth Co. WI and my gg uncles. After the war Alexander moved to Laramie, WY and Benjamin to Tecumseh, NE. Their family moved to WI in the mid-1850's from St. Lawrence Co. NY.

This man was my great-great grandfather. The family has a picture of him wearing his Civil War uniform, shaking hands with his grandson (my grandfather) who was wearing his WWI uniform. Born 8 Jun 1843, Earlville, New York. Was captured and sent to Libby Prison, and later exchanged for southern prisoners. He was in a coma for some time but returned to his unit later on. After the war, he married Mary Stanley Parmelee, the daughter of the plantation owner where he was stationed during the War, in Nashville. They returned to Delavan, where Annie was born August 8, 1871. In September his family moved to Chicago, and on October 9, 1871 he and his family were caught in the Chicago fire and burned out. Other children, Richard (Bud) and Lu (Eloise) were born in Chicago. Nellie (Ellen Marie) was born in Delavan, Wisconsin. He celebrated his fiftieth anniversary with his wife Mary in 1915 in Park Ridge, Illinois. Died 10 Sept 1919, Park Ridge Illinois.

William was born in 1825 in Northwich, Cheshire, England. He and his wife Mary arrived in Boston from England 16th May 1845. He then travelled to and settled in Wisconsin. Apart from 2 years spent on the gold fields of California in the 1850's he lived the remainder of his life in Wisconsin. He enlisted as a Private in the 22nd Wisconsin Infantry on 28th September 1864 and was drafted to E Company. He was mustered out on the 17th May 1865. His unit number was 3074 and he fought for the Union. He was also discharged with Distinguished Service. William died in 1904 and is buried in the Middlebury Cemetery, Iowa Co.

Andrew was born in Scotland, arrived in America early 1850's, settled in the Mt. Morris area of Waushara County, Wisconsin. December 1852 he married a neighbor's daughter, Catherine Paton Campbell, from Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. On 10 June 1865 was transfered to 3rd. Wisconsin Infantry, Mustered Out 7 August 1865. He retuned to his Mt. Morris area farm and died 1883. He is buried in Howes Corners Cemetery, about 2 1/2 miles NE of the town of Mt. Morris, Waushara County, Wisconsin. His wife remarried another Civil War Veteran, Eugene Leach. Morey D. Grove A Campbell descendant.

Albion Caleb Squires lived in Jordan, Green Co. Wisc. and married Sarah Isabelle McDonald there on 27 Jul 1862. He then enlisted as a private in Comp. G, 22nd. Wisc. Inf. on 2 Aug. 1862. The 22nd. Wisc. was sometimes called the 'Abolitionist Regiment', and was led by Col. William L. Utley, a relative by marriage of Albion Caleb Squires. Albion received a disability discharge on 13 Jan, 1864, and received a Distinguished Service Award.

This was my gg grandfather. At the time of enlistment he was living in Racine, Wisconsin, and working as a farmer. According to his Civil War pension papers, in June, 1864 near Kenasaw Mountian, Georgia, '...he was ordered to advance and throw up breatsworks that night, it was dark, and in rolling up a large log onto the breastwroks it slipped and came back knocking him down-and rolled over him injured his back and spine so that he was scarcely able to move himself, that night he lay without medical attention suffering intense pain from his injury and a fever set in, he was then taken to the Regimental Hospital his spine and back was so injured that he has never been able or will [sic] that time to perform manual labor.' Lyman spent the remander of the war in hospitals, being mustared out in June, 1865. He returned to civilian live, living in Black Hawk County Iowa working as a harness maker, a profession he continued with until retirement.

Joined regiment 8/11/1862. Was ill, recovering in a private home when the regiment was captured by Gen. Forrest, & evaded capture/imprisonment with a handful of surgeons & sick. Was reunited with 22nd after prisoner exchange, remained active through Grand Review, mustered out when regiment was disbanded, 6/12/1865.

Alexis enlisted with two half-brothers, Norwood and Erwin S. Bowers. Their home was Clinton, Rock Co., Wis. Alexis was a student at Allens Grove Academy (Walworth Co. - preparatory school for Beloit Coll.) Alexis was killed, 1864, at Lost Mountain, Georgia
