28th Wisconsin Infantry

Robert Bell was from Arkansas and fought for both sides. First with The 18th and 26th Arkansas, then joined his brother with the 28th Wisconsin in 1864. Discharged in Brownsville, TX in 1865.

One of three brothers who served with Wisconsin regiments during the Civil War. He was very fortunate, never wounded or hospitalized for illness in three years' service. He was not yet 16 years old when he enlisted.

Recruited in Whitewater, WI in 1862. Detached in 1863 to the Pioneer Corps under Captain Redignton at Little Rock, AK. Returned to regiment by April, 1865. Mustered out at Madison, WI in September, 1865. Died in 1914.

Jeremiah and his family immgrated into the USA from England in September 1844. They travelled on the ship Rockall from Liverpool into New York. Jeremiah and his second son, also Jeremiah were born in Marston upon Dove in Derbyshire.

born: Sep 1847 Birth Parents were John West and Mary Wells West of New York. Adopted by Stephen Jones and Abby Walworth Jones of Spring Prarie, Walworth County, Wisconsin. He was wounded in the war. Family history has it that when he was wounded, the doctors thought he would not survive, and he was not put with the other 'death watch' soldiers. He survived. Mustered Out 31 May 1865 Moved to South Dakota after the war.
