Picture avail.---Andrew was ill a couple of times during his service days. After returning home from the war Andrew never really recovered and died soon after. Andrew had 2 sons in the war, James also with the 33rd Co A and Thomas McKnight in the 47th Inf.

picture avail.---James was wounded at the Battle of the Spanish Fort in Alabama. He survived his wounds, but was partially deaf in both ears from that moment on. James was 15 years old when he volunteered for the service with his father, Andrew.

James lived at Rutland Township, Dane County WI, when the war erupted. He enlisted in December 1863, but fell ill before leaving for his regiment. He thereby missed Sherman's Meridian Campaign of destruction in Mississippi, but arrived at his regiment in time to march with the Red River Campaign. He later participated in Battle of Tupelo against Forrest, the pursuit of Price across Missouri, and the landmark battle of Nashville (the greatest Union victory west of the Appalachians). He moved to Mobile Bay to help his regiment take Spanish Fort but fell ill with pneumonia and suffered lung troubles for the rest of his life thereafter, but the Union was saved. William E Blocksidge enlisted as a Private on 4th Nov 1862. The 33rd engaged at Vicksburg several times between late 1862 and 1863. William was wounded in in the capture of Spanish Fort near Mobile, Alabama. The 33rd was the first to enter the fort on the 9th where they captured 2 Napolean guns and several prisoners. William was wounded in the battle. He mustered out on 23Aug1865 at the age of 22. He was born on 9thNov1842 in Birmingham England and emigrated to Racine County, Wisconsin with his parents and siblings around 1845. His brother, John Jesse Blocksidge, was in the 34th Infantry. William adopted John's youngest daughter after John died. William was a member of the James G. Blaine post 110 at the time of his death on 22Mar1932.
