PVT. Corwin Carter enlisted on May 2nd, 1864 and was mustered into the United States service at Camp Denison May 9, 1864. He was honorably discharged in September, 1864. He was born September 27th, 1840, in Paint township, Madison county, Ohio. He was the son of George W. and Matilda Kelley Carter and grandson of William and Elizabeth Shields Carter, who were Virginians.
