James was age 20 when he enlisted from Marengo Co Ala. Enlisted 17 Feb 1863. Mustered in at Mobile, Ala, Saw action at Fort Pillow, Shiloh & Farmington. His unit was posted at Fort Morgan on Mobile Bay. He died there of pneumonia in the Post Hospital on 2 Dec 1863. He is probably buried on those grounds. He was my 6th cousin 3 times removed. Thomas Sterling Hylton - Private
|
Thomas joined the Witherspoon Guards in 1861 and was wounded in the Battle of Shiloh. He was captured at Fort Gaines and was a prisoner of war in New Orleans and Ship Island. He was released in January 1865 in a Prisoner exchange. Later he saw action at Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely and escaped. The Drummer Boy of Shiloh is inscribed on his grave.

He was the husband of my 5th cousin 4 x removed.
