Jordan G. Brooks is my Great Grandfather. There are records which show he volunteered in Co. 'H', 33rd Alabama Infantry, Mar. 17, 1852, This unit was at Perryvville, KY and Murfreesboro, TN. His name is on a register of deceased on Jan. 28, 1863, following the battle on Dec. 31, 1862-Jan. 2,1863 at Murfreesboro, TN. We do not know the cause of death, where he died or where he is buried. One family version says he was killed in the battle. Another is that he died of disease after the battle. Any information about his death and burial will be appreciated.

This was my great-great grandfather. Pretty sure it was Co. B;he was listed as J.T. Wightt, a mispelling of his last name. He went to Texas some time after the war, was a doctor, and died in Lamar County, Texas in 1905. Looking for any information on where he served and what battles.

Phillip Burkett enlisted mar. 8 1862 in Georgiana. Wounded in battle and captured in Pulaski, Tenn.. He was in prisoner of war camps at Camp Chase and Camp Hammond. He was released Jun. 5,1865. Information was obtained from Footnote.com civil war records.

Seriously wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga where his Company was serving as a Line of Skirmishers ahead of the Regiment. He was taken to the hospital in Cobb Co., GA (near Atlanta) to recover. As a result of this action he was placed on the Confederate Roll of Honor in General Orders No. 64, Richmond, Va on August 10, 1864.

1838-1862

Served the Confederate States of America as a Lieutenant in Co. F, 33rd Alabama Infantry. The Regiment took heavy losses at the battle of Perryville, KY. Lt. Carroll was wounded and later killed on the battlefield while awaiting medical attention. He was born in 1831 in Covington County Alabama. He was married to Martha Ann Ham and left two sons and a daughter. All of his children were under 3 years old.

Served the Confederate States of America as a Corporal in Co. F, 33rd Alabama Infantry. Noah's brother Edward Demcy Carroll was KIA at Perryville. It is believed Noah might have been in the hospital during this battle. He was born in 1827 in Covington County, Alabama and died in 1910 in Marianna, FL. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Duncan. They had 13 children.

John has 20 cards in his archival file. He was at least 50 years old. He joined on 11 March 1862 at Brandon's Store, enlisted by A.H Justice into Capt. Justice's Company ' Covington & Coffee Gray's'. CMR for Mar. - June 1863, sent to hospital for surgery. On 20 Sept. 1863 wounded in battle and sent to hospital. He survived the war and died in Georgia in 1880.

William I. Nowling – enlisted March 11, 1862; sent to hospital on March 30, 1863, captured November 30, 1864 in Franklin, Tennessee; sent to Camp Douglas in Illinois, released April 3, 1865 when he volunteered and was put into Company K of the 6th United States Volunteers – a “Galvanized Yankee”; applied for a Florida Confederate pension in 1912 which was denied because of his service in the 6th U.S.; applied for and received a federal pension for his service with the 6th U.S. From his U.S. enlistment papers he was 5ft. 8in. tall, dark complexioned and had brown hair and brown eyes. His duties as described in official Union Army Company Muster Rolls was Company cook and also Company tailor. W.I. stated he was discharged at Ft. Kearney, Nebraska Territory on Oct. 1, 1866.

Lewellen Bigby (Bigbie, Bigbee)was captured and sent to Camp Douglas in Chicago. Ultimately paroled he survived the war and died in Fannin TX 1905

Thomas T. Bigbie (Bigbee, Bigby) enlisted in Co. G, 33rd Alabama Infantry Regiment, in May 1862. He was captured near Peachtree Creek at Atlanta, July 22, 1864, and sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois, where he died October 17, 1864.

Daniel Myers (Myres) b.6 OCT 1842 d. 4 APR 1863 in Whitfield Co. Dalton GA. The 33rd Alabama spent the winter 1862/1863 in or near Dalton. Myers reported to St. Mary's Hospital in Dalton.

Thomas was born 6 June 1840 in Marion Co. Tennessee. Enlisted 12 June 1862 at Caperton's Ferry as a Pvt. by Capt. G.E. Gowan in Co A 18th Battalion, Ala. Vol's. Gibson's Battalion Mounted. Rode and fought with Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. This Battn: was incorporated into the 33rd Ala. Infantry. 1 Apr 1863 he is promoted to 4th Corporal and on 1 Aug 1863 to the rank of 1st Sgt. On 27 May he is reported to have been wounded. He has 8 cards in his archival file. He was captured 10 Feb 1865 in Dale County, Georgia. and sent to Cap Chase, Ohio. He was released on 13 Jun 1865 after swallowing the Yellow Dog. He is described as being age 24, 6ft 2 1/2 inches tall, fair complexion, dark hair and black eyes. He is from Jackson County Ala. He died 17 Aug 1898 and is buried in the Cave Hill Cem. Louisville, Jefferson Co Ky. [PS Note to researchers, there are two other T.J. Pankey's about the same ages from the same county in the archival files. Co G 7th Ala Ing. Ragsdale's and Co M 9th Ala. Inf. At the end of the war Thomas was serving in Lowery's Brigade, Cleburn's Division, Hardee's Corps army of Tenn. May God rest his soul.

My great granddad and his six brothers served first in Gunter's Battalion (1st Alabama Partisan Rangers), then the 18th Alabama, Co. B; then merged with 33rd Ala, Co. H. Finally with the 4th Conf Inf later renamed 34th Tn Inf. Wounded at New Hope Church May 27th, 1864. They were from Jackson County, AL

Served the entire war with the 33rd Alabama Infantry Regmt. William B. Carter signed an oath of allegiance to the United States in August 1865. He was born in Butler County, Alabama in 1831 and died in Covington County, AL in June 1907. Terry Cadmus Parker enlisted in CSA on March 18,1862,atHaw Ridge near Greenville, AL. Served with Co I,33rd Alabama Regt. He was captured at Danville KY and exchanged. He then served till the end of the war. Resident of Troy, Pike Co. Ala. Was born 1 May 1842 in Russell Co. AL. Parents were Isreal and Catherine Parker. His wife was Euphemia Cornelia Whitman on 1 Nov 1964. Lived in Dale Co. 8 yrs then moved to Pike Co. AL. Then moved to Center in Shelby Co. TX. Stayed in TX one year and returned to Troy, AL. He had eleven children. He was a farmer but took up blacksmithing as profession in Troy. He died in 1910. Was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Terry Cadmus and Euphemia are buried in Troy's Oakwood Cem. ....

Grandfather H.J. Dyess (Jack) was born abt. 1840. He married Mary Ann Elizabeth Revel Dec. 16, 1860 in Taylor Co., Ga. Jack Dyess was in the Battle of Stones River at Murfreesboro, Dec. 31, 1862 to January 3, 1863. The Yankees shot Jack here. He was in hosptial here. He died January 29, 1863. He is supposedly buried here at Confederate Circle. He left behind a wife and one year old daughter. The daughter later married Adolphus Fillingim.
