Hugh was wounded several times. Lost his index and middle finger of left hand. Shot in his calf and in the throat, with bullet lodging next to his jaw bone. Last activity recorded - he was in hospital in Richmond in Sept. of 1864. Died in early 1900s. Buried Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Kennedy, Ala. CSA Veteran's headstone marks grave.

Born 18 July 1845 in Pickens Conuty, Alabama Died 22 September 1922
in Prentiss County, Mississippi. Wiley along with three brothers, John R.,
Latimore M., and Luellen G. joined Company B. Wiley was wounded in
the battle of Stone River and on 12 April 1863 he was admitted to the
Episcopal Church Hospital, Williamsburg Virginia. After being exchanged
18 April 1863 he was furloughed and later rejoined his unit. He was
captured again 3 April 1865 at Amelia Courthouse, Virginia and finally
released on 8 July 1865

James was b. in Spartanburg S.C. about 1825 and had moved with his parents' family to DeKalb co. Ala. before 1840 He married Harriet Keener and moved his family to Pickens Co. He and his oldest son William volunteered May 7 1862 and were sent to Tuscaloosa for training. The son, William got sick in camp and died June 29 1862. Though often sick himself, James went through the rest of the war seeing service in Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi and, Virginia. He was paroled at Columbus MS. May 30, 1865. He died abt. 1873 in Cross Co. Ark.

William M., oldest son of James M. and Harriet Keener Hammett
was b. about 1846 in DeKalb co. Ala., then moved with his family to Pickens county around 1858. William enlisted with his father in Co. D 41st Ala. on May 7 1862. They were sent to a camp at Tuscaloosa where the regiment was training. While there William contracted some sickness, possibly measles or pneumonia, and died June 29 1862. His body was brought home and is buried in the Arbor Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Reform Alabama.

Newton Mitchell joined the Confederate Army in 1863. He was wounded in the arm and was captured by the North. His arm was amputated while in a Northern prison. Recaptured by the Confederate Army while still in the hospital, he returned home to Alabama.

James was born in Kentucky. In 1860 he is in Pickins County, Alabama where he enlisted 10 July 1862, enlisted by Capt. Braddock / Craddock for three years or the war. He has 20 items in his archival file. On 1 August he is assigned to the Quartermaster Corps, detailed as a Waggoner. In Feb 1863 he is hauling commissary stores. Command structure: Hanson's Brigade, Breckinridge's Division, General Archibald Gracie's Brigade. Battles: Murfreesboro, Vicksburg Siege, Jackson. Chickamauga, East Tennessee Campaign, Knoxville, Drewry's Bluff, Dutch Gap, Petersburg Siege, Hatchers Run & Appomattox. His date of death and place of burial is unknown. He was the father-in-law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.
