Philip Southwell Hiers - 1st Sergeant
|
I am searching for as much information as I can find on Philip Southwell Hiers. The most information I could find was this: he enlisted as a volunteer May 3, 1862 at old Columbus, Florida, in Co. 'H', 8th Florida infantry Regiment and was elected a sergeant. His brigade (known as Finnigan's Brigade) was in the battle of Gettysburg and several other important battles of the war and virtually all of his company, including himself, was captured near Birdsville, Virginia, April 16, 1865 and were held for a short while in a prisoner-of-war camp at Norfolk, Virginia, but were soon paroled, the war being over.
If anybody could find more detailed information on him, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
