Nelson's file consists of 15 cards. He enlisted 10 Sept 1861. His unit is sent to the Richmond Va. area. He is sick and admitted to the hospital at Danville. He is found as a patient in the hospital at Ocmulgee, Macon Georgia in Dec of 1864. There is a card in his file with the name [Thomas] as having been wounded in action on 20 feb. 1864 at the battle of Olustee, Florida. Was stationed along Bloody Lane at Sharpsburg. Was wounded and died in a field hospital a couple days later. His sister, who was blind towards the end of her life (early 1900s), would call out 'Charlie? Charlie is that you?' whenever she'd hear someone coming up the porch steps (from my great-aunt Trudy, remembering her grandmother).

My g-grandfather joined the CSA in Augusta, Georgia, at age 16 in August 1863. He states he was surrendered by J.E. Johnston to Sherman, April 1865 after the Battle of Bentonville. He mentioned paroled at Rockingham Station. I have copies of Application for CSA Pension, the examining doctors statement, that he was partially blinded due to paralysis of the optic nerve, damage to his spine and 'other' physical problems. I want to know: at what battle was he wounded, I want his medical records; when he was transferred to 'Limited Duty' Inf. and why. Noted that in September & October 1864 he was absent from Muster due to: absence due to being in the hospital. Muster was at White Marsh Island.
