Enlisted May 13, 1862, Camp McDonald; was paid a bounty of $50.00 on May 16, 1862. Captured when Vicksburg fell on 4 July 1863 and paroled. Known engagements- Champion Hill, Vicksburg, Nashville, Chattanooga. Illiterate, he had to make his mark on his Parole Form (filled out 8 July 1863).

WB Huggins was my great-grandfather. He enlisted on May 13, 1862. The unit was sent to TN, then MS where it was assigned to T.H. Taylor's Brigade, Dept. of MS and East LA. It participated in the battle at Champion 's Hill and was captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. Exchanged and reorganized, it was placed in General Cummings' Brigade, Army of TN. The 34th was active in many engagements from Chattanooga to Nashville. WB, along with brothers Asa and Aaron, were captured at Nashville but I don't have details. On April 26th, 1865 General Joseph E. Johnston surrendered his Army of TN, the men of the 34th GA Regiment included, to General Sherman in Greensboro, NC. WB and Asa walked home. WB became a farmer and later became the Sexton (caretaker) for the Carrollton, GA City Cemetery, located just down the block from where he and his wife Levy Ann resided. He was buried there in January 1905.

I have seen the roster's for the 34th Georgia Volunteers and my great grandfather was in the unit along with several of my gg uncles from Coweta County Georgia. My uncle's names were Huggins

Born May 10, 1843 in Chattooga, Georgia to Charles P. and Martha Akridge, Ezekiel enlisted May 13, 1862 in Blackwell's Company D the 34th Georgia. He was wounded at Baker's Creek in June of 1863 but returned to service and was surrendered in 1865. Ezekiel married his cousin Eliza Price and they moved to Arkansas. His wounds were always with him and he and Eliza divorced before 1870. He lived in Texas until he returned to Chattooga County, Georgia where he filed for a pension in 1906 and died in 1908.

William served with the Ga 34th. He had moved to Cherokee county, Alabama, however he crossed the state line joined up in Chattooga county, GA. He was originally from what is now Bartow county, GA. He wrote a series of 29 letters home that can be found on micorfilm in the GA archives. He was captured and then paroled after Vicksburg fell. He was being brought home by a Rev. Lea from MS when he died 10 miles outside of Enterprise. He never saw his son, Patrick Thomas Daniel, but he named him in a letter he wrote home. His wife, Elizabeth Stovall moved back to Ga to live with her mother, Nancry Garner Stovall. His brother in law was a member of the Ga 40th and they served close enough that they would walk picket together. His brother in law was Patrick Henry Stovall.

Elijah was born in anderson S.C.joined the 34th GA. inf.in chattooga co. Ga.wounded at vicksburg MS.Died in brinkley AR.abt 1895.he was my GG Grandfather.

Charles D. the son of Charles and Mary (Wilder) Price was born in Chattooga County, Georgia circa 1838. By the time the war came he was already a land owner. He enlisted May 13, 1861 with the rank of Lieutenant in Company D of Blackwell's 34th Georgia and died at Vicksburg, Mississippi June 22, 1863. He never married. His brother Joseph C. Price also died in the War Between the States.

Augustus was captured at Champion's Hill on July 4,1863, and paroled there July 8,1863. He surrendered at Kingston, GA on May 12, 1865 during the Atlanta Campaign.

Thomas was captured at Marietta, GA on July 3, 1864, and died of pleurisy at Camp Douglas, IL on February 28, 1865. He is buried in the cemetery at Camp Douglas.

William died at Champion's Hill/Baker's Creek, MS, May 16, 1863, during the Vicksburg Campaign.

My gggrandfather Sgt. Samuel M. Brooks was wounded in the chest and died at the General Hospital in Atlanta, GA on September 14, 1864 shortly after Atlanta was captured by Sherman. I've been searching for his burial place for the last 25 years. If anyone has an idea where he could be buried, please contact me.

Sgt Sailors was captured at Vicksburg and paroled. Later he was captured on the streets of Athens, GA and released. He is buried in a small family cemetery on Eller Rd in Madison County, Georgia along with his 1st and 2nd wives.

Also had two older brothers in Confederate Service; James Coin, 1st Kentucky Cavalry then to the 6th Kentucky Cavalry and Samuel D Coin, 6th Alabama Infantry

Great Grand Uncle from Dade County, GA. Served with my grandfather David J jones in Company F. Both captured at Vicksburg. Both moved to Northwest Alabama after the war. AJ died young, 41 with a young wife and child. He is buried in Margerum, AL 1 mile from Mississippi Line in Colbert County, AL. Do not know the cause of death but old stories indicate that he was shot and killed.

Great grandfather, moved to northwest Alabama right after the war with his brother Andrew Jackson Jones also in Company F. Both were captured at Vicksburg. Married 4 times and had 18 children. Yep, that's why there are so many Jones'. He lived till he was 92 and buried in Florence City Cemetery in Alabama.

Gilbert Monroe Mason(my 3rd great-grand uncle) was born 25 February 1845 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee to Lewis Mason(1807-1875) and Sussannah Womack(1807-1848). Enlisted as a Private on 17 May 1862 in Dade Co., Georgia. Take P.O.W. at battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi 4 July 1863 and took an oath of allegience to the US on 24th December 1863.

James W. Mason is my 3rd great-grandfather. He was born in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee on 17 April 1835 to Lewis Mason(1807-1875) and Susannah Womack(1807-1848). The family moved to Dade County, Georgia between 1845 and 1850. Around 1873, the family move to Izard County, Arkansas. Enlisted 17 May 1862 in Dade County Geogia. Taken P.O.W. on July 4, 1863 at Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Released on July 8, 1863. Took Oath of Alligiance on December 24, 1863 at Nashville, Tennessee. Released at Louisville, Kentucky and sent north.

Moses served with his brother, Alias. Fought in the KY campaign. Both were captured on July 4, 1863 in Vicksburg,MS. Paroled July 8th returned to his unit. Nov 1863 fought in the Chattanooga campaign @ Lookout Mtn, Orchard Knob & Missionary Ridge. Then came the Battle of Atlanta and surrounding areas. Last Battles were Nashville & Bentonville, NC. Surrendered May 23, 1865 in Greenville, SC. Died Dec 2, 1904

John Thomas entered the service as Second Sergeant, in Spring 1861 at Trenton, Georgia in the 34th Georgia Regiment in Col. William Brook Co and continued until discharged May 3rd 1865.

Enlisted in Company G, Georgia 34th Infantry Regiment on 12 May 1862 as 1st Sgt. under Capt Russell A. Jones. Captured at Vicksburg, Miss. on July 4, 1863, paroled July 8, 1863. Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 15 Sep 1863. Captured in Anderson, NC on May 18, 1865.

Jefferson, Lewis Henry, Terrel, and John Phillips. 34 GA VOL INF. Siege of Vicksburg and out-lying skirmishes and battles. Lewis Henry captured while on skirmish duty. Sent to Fort Delaware. Exchanged. John wounded at Champion Hill, and later died at Vicksburg. Jefferson and Terrel surrendered at Vicksburg. Terrel re-captured at the Battle of Hartwell, GA. Jefferson present and surrendered at Bentonville.

John was wounded at the Battle of Champion Hill, and was transferred to Vicksburg. He was cared for by Confederate surgeons until the surrender. His care was briefly transferred to USA. He died under the care of the Sisters of Mercy in Vicksburg. I have no information as to the date of his death or his grave sight.

Born in 1833 in Franklin County Georgia, Joseph Henry Smith enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 12 May 1862, in Franklin County, Georgia. He was mustered as Sergeant in Company G, 34th Georgia Infantry, also known as Capt. Russell A. Jone's Company, Johnson's Regiment Georgia Infantry. Joseph participated in all engagements and battles with Company G, 34th Infantry, including the Battle at Champion's Hill. Joseph was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 4 July 1863, later paroled on 8 July 1863, and listed with rank of Sergeant. He was promoted sometime after his captured at Vicksburg as his CMSR (compiled military service record) later shows him with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant. 

Lieutenant Joseph Henry Smith was wounded by gun fire while leading his men in battle, and the bullet fractured the left fibia in middle third of his leg, during the Battle of Nashville. He was captured on 16 December 1864, in Nashville, Tennessee. Joseph originally was at U.S. Hospital No.1, where U.S. Surgeon, Dr. Buist, amputated his left leg, and the middle third of his thigh, on 29 December 1864 in Nashville, Tennessee. Lieutenant Joseph Henry Smith was transferred to the U.S. General Hospital No.2 (new) in Nashville, Tennessee and admitted on 6 May 1865. Lieutenant Joseph Henry Smith died at the young age of 32, from exhaustion and probably infection on 27 May 1865. 

Joseph was originally buried in the Nashville City Cemetery, grave #13634 but was later exhumed after the war with 1,400 other Confederate soldiers buried at Nashville City Cemetery in Nashville and was re-interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville.

Isham Thompson was conscripted in Carnesville, Ga. Co. I, 34th Ga. Regt.,Inf., Army of Tenn., Franklin Co., Ga., 'Flintsville Greys'. Flintsville was a small community near Red Hill, Ga. about 7 miles from Carnesville. He was married to Sarah An Higginbotham in Hart Co., GA. From records I found in an old ledger in the Courthouse in Carnesville, Ga. a member of Isham's unit had evidently given the information 'died in 1863'. No further information is known. Family never knew his fate. He was born in Elbert Co., Ga. the son of Gaines and Sarah Rice Thompson. His brother Lawrence Thompson was also in this unit and died at war.

Enlisted on 12 May 1862 from Franklin County, GA. William was 25. His brother-In-law Henry Jackson Mize also in this company and was killed in 1864. On October 8, 1862, elements of the 34th Georgia Infantry Regiment were heavily engaged in the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky. Fought as part of Confederate General Braxton Bragg's Heartland Offensive, the 34th was attached to General T.H. Taylor's Brigade and suffered significant casualties in the grueling campaign. Buried at Mize Family Cemetery Stephens, Georgia.

Enlisted as a Private on 27 June 1862. Surrendered on 26 April 1865 at Greensboro, NC.
