Capt. George Augustus Gordon's company

Edward J. Boyett was an older brother of Great Grandmother Mary Elizabeth Boyett-Barrs, wife of Isaac Newman Barrs of Day, Lafayette County, Florida. Mary Elizabeth and Isaac Newton married on January 29, 1873 in Brooks County, GA.

Edward Jasper Boyette was born on July 23, 1845 in Lowndes County, Georgia to John Ashley Boyett and Nancy Hollwell-Boyett, and died on December 7, 1925, in Fenholloway, Taylor County, Florida. He served in the CSA 1st Georgia Infantry Reserves during the War Between the States.

Robert was 50 years old when he volunteered on 23 Dec 1863. enlisting in Co A Capt Gould's Co Ga Inf. [Silver- Grays] This unit was for local defense. He served until the end of the war.

John Ashley Boyett (GG Grandfather of Al Barrs, Jr.)after being pardoned from the Union Point Lookout Prison Camp died March 7, 1865 in Jackson CSA Hospital in Richmond VA Hospital and was buried in the Hollywood Cemetery under the name ‘A. S. Bagat (section W, lot 580).’ His two oldest sons Francis and William Boyett were also interned in the Hollywood Cemetery. Ashley Boyett’s 3rd youngest son Edward J. Boyett was captured by Union forces and also held in the Point Lookout Prison Camp. Edward J. was the only family of Ashley Boyett to survive The War.

William Henry Marshall served in Company H, 'Dahlonega Volunteers' from March, 1861 to March, 1862. His company was one of six cut off from the regiment during the retreat from Laurel Hill - spent several days lost in the mountains of Northwestern (now West) Virginia until guided out by an mountaineer named Parsons. My book on the First Georgia (Ramsey's), entitled 'I Will Give Them One More Shot,' has been published by Mercer University Press.

Joseph Berry Wade was born: 17 JUL 1815 in Pendleton District, South Carolina Died: 17 JUL 1877 Rosewood, Upshur, Texas Buried Grice Cemetery. He was married to Sarah Medely Odell, born 30 NOV 1822 in Pickens, Pickens Co., South Carolina and died: 18 MAY 1908 in Edgewood, Van Zandt Co., Tx. and buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. They married 6 Mar 1839 in Dahlonega, Lumpkin Co., Ga. and had 9 children, Telitha Jane Wade 1839–1850, Emily Adaline Wade 1841–1895, William Asbery Wade 1842–1864 who was killed in the defense of Atlanta during the Civil War, Elizabeth Agnew Wade 1845–1860, Whitfield Anthony Wade 1847–1928, John Wesley Moody Wade
1849–1882, Laurence Q P Wade 1851–1922, Susan Ann Amancy Wade
1854–1950, and Adelia Josephene Wade 1857–1936. Joseph moved with his mother, Telitha Wade, and brothers John Lawrence M. Wade and David Alexander Wade and perhaps brothers Jacob and Philip James to Lumpkin County, Georgia as early as 1834 when they appear to be shown in the state census in Lumpkin County. Joseph was a gold miner when gold was discovered there in 1838 and worked numerous gold mines in the area. He served in the Confederate Army 1st Georgia Volunteer Infantry (Ramsey) 821 Georgia Militia 'Home Guard' for Lumpkin Co., Ga. with his son Whitfield A. Wade. In 1869 he moved with his family by ox-drawn wagon train down through Mobile, Alabama and by ferry across the gulf and up the Mississippi River connecting to the Caddo Lake and finally arriving in Jefferson, Texas. From there to Upshur County, Texas where they lived in Old Calloway. His family moved to Kaufman Co., Tx. following his death but most returned to Rosewood, Upshur Co., Texas soon thereafter until their death. Whitfield Anthony Wade was born in Auraria, Lumpkin Co., Georgia 23 NOV 1847 and died: 23 JAN 1928 in Rosewood, Upshur, Texas and is buried at Grice Cemetery next to his father whom he served with in the Home Guard guarding the northern Georgia state line which he recalled often to his children. He was born to Joseph Berry Wade (1815-1877) and Sarah Medely Odell Wade (1822-1908) and was brought up about a mile north of Auraria and in the Auraria schools. He recounted working as a child sweeping floors in he old Dahlonega mint for extra money as well as joining his family gold panning when he father wasn't working at the mines. He told his grandson, Harvey Surestus Wade, that during the Civil War he and his dad with sleep outdoors for months on end in the cold mountains looking for yankees and Confederate deserters as well. He left Lumpkin County in 1869 by ox-drawn wagon and settled in Upshur County, Texas where he had a farm and large orchard near the town of Rosewood. He had a blacksmith shop, a profession he probably learned from his in-laws, the Odells, whom were said to be blacksmiths. In Upshur County he married Mirah Elizabeth Knight (1855–1885) on 15 Oct 1874 and had 4 children, Laura H. Wade 1875–1876, Agnes Maggie Wade 1877–1938, Joseph Jefferson Wade 1879–1959, Anthoney Frank Wade 1881–1903 and Harvey Surestus Wade
1884–1980. After her death when her horse was spooked and threw her returning from the Rosewood post office hemarried her widowed sister, Area Addie E. Knight 1863–1929 and they had 7 children, Chester L. Wade 1886–1906, Charles Milton Wade
1889–1970, Emily Zelma Wade 1891–1964, Ruthie Lille Wade 1897–1977, Cullis Wade 1900–1969, Preston Vernon Wade 1903–1957, and Bennie Burchell Wade 1906–1983. Whitfield A. Letters from him to his wife show that he was at 'Camp Georgia', FLA., Fort Barrancas at the end of April 1861.

Letters later that year put him in Staunton, Virgina at General Hospital in charge of the Apothecary.

After a year with the 1st Volunteers he returned to Forsyth, Ga where he served as Post Master.

In 1864, the injured were brought to Forsyth via train from the battles around Atlanta. There were hospitals set up in multiple places around town. There was a hospital camp set up in a grove at the Sneed homestead. A historical marker is in place.

I assume this 1st GA is Ramsey's regiment.
Enoch, who went by 'Ed', was a shoemaker who had just turned 18 when he enlisted in the spring of '61 in Monroe County, GA. Saw action with the 1st in western Virginia (Laurel Hill, Greenbriar, Romney Campaign) until it returned home and disbanded in March '62. Ed then joined the 53rd GA (See below.) Late in life was presiding judge in Texas Co, MO.
