Daniel Vanston - Private |
|
Daniel Vanston enlisted in the 12th Illinois, Cavalry, Co. C on February 19, 1862. His occupation at enlistment was a blacksmith and he was detailed with his company as a blacksmith. Daniel was wounded on June 21, 1863 at Upperville, Virginia. Daniel refused to muster in for a second three-year service and was put in solitary confinement for three weeks. Following his release, he continued with the 12th Illinois Cavalry and was with them in 1864 when the 12th was at Camp Instruction and Distribution in Greenville, Lousiana. Daniel was admitted to the hospital on July 23, 1864 and died September 21, 1864. He is buried in Chalmette National Cemetery, New Orleans, Lousiana.
