Thomas Edward Dutton - Private
|
On May 2 1881, Sarah E. Wines Dutton Dousey, his widow, filed for Invalid and Minor Civil War Pension for their daughter, Emma, in Michigan; then, on March 17, 1891, she filed for minor benefits for her in Wisconsin. They lived on the border of Menominee, Michigan and Marinette, Wisconsin, so this probably is why this happened. Thomas served with the 28th Illinois Infantry, Company K as a private, on the Union side.
In Thomas's Civil War Record, it states his age as 42 when in reality, he would have been 62, so he must have been in good physical shape, to have lied about his age by 20 years. His description is recorded at 5'9', black hair and dark eyes. It also shows his birthplace as New Castle, England.
