He is buried at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina, Section 7, site 512. Little is known about Tilman Dixon's ancestry.

As a 1 LT he tendered his resignation on September 27, 1862, at Ft. Walleck, Kentucky, due to poor health. The unit surgeon confirmed this. He mentioned being paid last in Tuscumbia, Alabama on July 1, 1862 by a Major Lowery. His Regiment Commander was Col S.C. Foles. Mustered out: Reassigned at Corinth, Mississippi, September 1, 1862. Muster-out Roll March 14, 1865, Fayetville, NC.
