Edgar Fayette Stanton - Sergeant
Edgar F. Stanton enlisted from his home town of Pittsfield, in Pike County, Illinois, in 1862 at the age of 23. Pike County was a very patriotic area and many of Edgar's friends and neighbors enlisted with him. General Ulysses S. Grant was in command during every battle in which Edgar Stanton participated, including the seige of Vicksburg. Edgar's war experiences left him with disabilities, including those caused by severe dysentery, a very common malady among the troops.
