Enlisted with his brother Thomas D. Holley at Monroe, LA on June 4, 1861 in the 'Quachita Blues'. Was wounded and separated from his brother at Chickamauga, GA.Sent to hospital. Captured near Atlanta, GA Aug 3 or 5, 1864. Sent to prison at Louisville, Ky by way of Nashville, TN and then to Camp Chase, Ohio. Paroled Feb. 12, 1865. Exchanged at Boulwares and Coxes Wharf,James River, VA, Feb. 20-21, 1865. Moved to East Texas after war.

Enlisted with his brother George Jethro Holley at Monroe, LA on June 4, 1861 in the 'Quachita Blues'. Captured at Chickamauga, GA Sept. 19, 1863 and separated from his brother George Jethro Holley. Sent to prison at Louisville, Ky and then to Camp Douglas, Ill Oct 4, 1863 and remained there as a POW until April, 18, 1865 at which time he was 'galvanized' and enlisted in the 5th U.S. Volunteer Infantry
Organized at Alton and Camp Douglas, Ill., March to May, 1865. Ordered to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, May 3, 1865. Assigned to duty in District of Upper Arkansas from Little Arkansas River to Fort Dodge and Cimarron Crossing. Duty in Districts of Nebraska, Colorado and Utah and the Plains till November, 1866. Mustered out November 13, 1866.

Martin Bryant enlisted April 2,1862. Company F. of the Fourth Louisiana Infantry Battalion was the last company to join the Battalion. They left Ouachita Parish in the spring of 1862 and joined the Battalion on James Island a few months prior to the battle of Secessionville, in June of 1862. It appears that Lt. Colonel John McEnery raised this company while home in Monroe on furlough. This company was known as the Ouachita Rebels.
