Frank J. Busch - Sergeant
Frank J. Busch (Bush) (10 Feb 1821 - 3 Oct 1898) was a Sgt., Company G, 16th Massachusetts Infantry Vols. (1861 - 1865) which was raised in Lowell, MA. Sgt. Busch, my great, great grandfather, was wounded in both legs above the knee by the same musket ball on 6 May 1864 at Wilderness, VA. He was born in Alsace, France and died in East Rochester, NH. Sgt. Busch is buried in the Milton Mills Cemetery, Strafford County, NH with three of his eight children. There is a GAR marker stands to the left of his gravestone and an Odd Fellows marker to the right.
The 16th Massachusetts Infantry Volunteers participated in the following battles, among others: Fair Oaks, Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania & Cold Harbor.
