Walden has three cards in his archival file. He enlisted at abt 17 years old in Capt W.S Reynold's Co Cavalry mounted * exempts. This became Co A 1st Miss Cavalry Reserves. He was engaged in all the battles fought by his unit. His unit surrendered at Citronelle, Ala. and paroled at Columbus, Miss. 16 May 1865.

Private John F. Ayers was born Nov. 24, 1841 in Tippah County, Mississippi. At the age of 21, he enlisted in Company C, Ham’s 1st Battalion Mississippi State Cavalry, a.k.a. 16th Battalion State Cavalry. Private Ayers died shortly after the war on June 8th 1865 in Anderson County, Texas. He is buried in the Miller - Ayres Family Cemetery in Palestine, Anderson County, Texas.
