this is my Great Great Grandfather

Matthew has four cards in his file. He enlisted at Enterprise Miss, on 29 Sept. 1863 for the war. Enlisted by Lieut. Thompson into New Co A 3rd Mississippi Infantry. He was captured and sent to Canton, Stark County Ohio where he died as a POW on 4 Feb. 1864. His grave has not been located. He left a wife and three small children. He was the husband of Mary Emaline Byrd 1834-1924 of Jackson, Rankin Mississippi

Usant was 27 years old when he enlisted 29 Aug 1862 at Ocean Springs Mississippi, in Co A [new] 3rd Regiment Mississippi Infantry. Unit known as 'Live Oak Rifles' and was raised in Jackson Co. Miss. He was engaged in the battle of Vicksburg. He survived the war and is buried in Antioch Cem., Vancleve County Miss. Distantly related by marriage.

Henry Clay Goodman was my great-great grandfather. He enlisted in May of 1861 out of Vicksburg, MS. He was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh and partially paralyzed. He was captured as a POW by Union troops at Perryville, KY in Oct 1862, and shipped to Cairo, IL by steamboat in Nov 1862. He was discharged under age in Mar 1863, and later reenlisted in 1864 as part of Semple's Battery out of Montgomery, AL. He died in June 1910.

Dismounted and Transferred to infantry (3rd MS Inf) on August 12, 1864 in the vicinity of the Atlanta Campaign. He previous unit was Co A, (Steede's Company) 9th MS Cavalry. Buried at Mutual Rights Cemetery Avera, Green County, MS.

Died at Camp Douglas, Illinois (POW)

Oliver Perry Drew is my great-great grandfather. He and his brother William were with the Chunkey Heroes that became 'D' Co., 3rd Miss. Infantry. William was killed at Franklin, Tenn. and Oliver Perry was captured at Nashville in December of 1864.He was taken to Chicago as a prisoner of war where he was incarcerated untill the end of the war.

William was Oliver Perry Drew's brother. He was killed at Franklin, Tenn.

Aaron was single and 24 years old. He enlisted in [old] Co B Capt W.B. Johnson's Co [Chunky Heroes] 3rd Miss. Vol's, on 5 Sept. 1861 in Newton Co. Miss. Mustered in at Pass Christian, Miss. He was elected to 2nd Lieut. on 1 May 1862. He died in battle in Va. The exact date of death is unknown. He was last paid on 20 July 1863. His father made application for his effects.

John enlisted as a Pvt. in Capt W.B. Johnson's Co. 3rd Regt. Miss. Vol's. [Chunky Heroes]on 5 Nov 1861 in Newton Co. Miss. In Aug. he was promoted to 3rd Sergt. and elected to 2nd Lieutenant on 15 Feb. 1863. He was with Featherstone's Brigade,Loring's Division, Stewart's Corp's, Army of Tennessee. John was killed in action while leading his troops in the battle of Peach Tree Creek in Georgia.

Captured at Luka in '62. Paroled. Joined an Alabama unit and fought the yankees again. Must have been hard core!

Killed in The Battle of Franklin

He is my great, great grandfather. My great grandfather William Floyd Gibbs' wife, Susan Jane Johnson's father. He was called Billy. He is buried in Alligator Cemetery in Henderson County, Texas near New York, Texas. He was born in Tennessee.

3rd BN, 45th Regt, Co. 'F', also known as 33rd Inf. Under Maj. Hardcastle.Captured at Triune the day before Battle of Stones River.

'Tony' was put on special duty as a Blacksmith & was in many units. Ended up in 7th Miss. Cav. Co. 'B'.

Babe was my great great grandfather. He served through out the entire war and was shot serveral times.

2nd Great Grandfather. Nicknamed "Dead Horse", for hiding inside a dead horse avoiding Yankee troops who were rounding up wounded and stragglers to be shipped to POW Camp.

I have headstone and pension applications which state that Peter was in this unit. However, the only service records I could obtain was for an 'N.J. Smith' who died in a hospital on July 24, 1864, in Macon of wounds sustained July 20th during the Battle of Peachtree Creek, so this is not my relative since he survived the war. I've seen the muster rolls for this unit, and there is nobody else listed that could be him. I have another headstone application that says that Peter was a member of the 4th MS cavalry. According to information on both applications, it has to be the same man. I have obtained service records from the cavalry unit, but I'm not sure if this is the right man because, according to a list of headstone registrations, there is another man of the same name in the same unit, but he's from Simpson County. So the service records may be his. Nimrod 'Peter' Smith, Sr. is buried in Steep Hollow cemetery, located in Pearl River County, Mississippi. His headstone just says 'Confederate States Army'. No specific unit is listed.

I have not finished researching this record, but I will add more information as it is located. George Milton Dunlap died 30 January 1903 and is buried at Dunlap Cemetery in Union County, MS.

Leander Dunlap was captured at Fort Donelson, TN and sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. He died 29 March 1863 and is buried in a Confederate mound at Oak Wood Cemetery in Chicago, Ill.

Mathew L. Dunlap was captured 16 July 1862 at Fort Donelson, TN. He was sent to Camp Douglas, Ill and later sent to Cairo, Ill for exchange. His exact death date and buriel location are not known at this time.

Samuel Dunlap was captured 16 July 1862 at Fort Donelson, TN, and then taken to Camp Douglas, Ill. He died 7 April 1863, he is presumed to be buried in a Confederate mound in Oak Wood Cemetery, Chicago, Ill.

William Riley Dunlap enlisted in the 3rd MS Infantry(later changed to 23rd MS). This regiment was raised in Pontotoc Co. and named 'Plentitude Invincibles. William Riley was captured on 16 July, 1862 at Fort Donelson, TN and sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. He was later sent to Cairo, Ill for exchange. He was awarded the Southern Cross of Honor from Marshall Co. He died 28 August 1920 and is buried at Dunlap Cemetery in Union County, MS.

Survived the war, most notably the 2d Battle of Franklin. Died 1906

David H. GRACE enlisted Aug. 15, 1861 at Hazlehurst, Copiah Co., MS for a period of 1 year. He was captured on or about June 19, 1864 at Marietta, GA. June 24, 1864 he is on a roll of prisoners of war in Nashville, TN. June 25, 1864 in Louisville, KY. June 30, 1864 he was transferred to Camp Morton, Indianapolis, IN. He died at Camp Morton on July 8, 1864 from Inflamation of the Bowels and is buried in the Confederate Section, Green Lawn Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. It is believed he is the same David GRACE, occupation miller, b. ca 1793 NC, m. Aug 24, 1816 Caldwell Co., KY to Jane FOWLER, lived Caldwell Co., KY; Stewart Co., TN; Trigg Co., KY; Copiah Co., Chickasaw Co., & Calhoun Co., MS.
