Lee was my GGrandfather (on my father's maternal side). His company was know as 'Boone Avengers'. His records are provided at Film number M232 roll 33, Civil War Soldier & Sailors System (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/).
A quote from George Sanders (past member of the Regiment): 'We were organized and drilled at Iuka and then went to Corinth, where we camped a few days, and from there -- went to Bowling Green, Ky., where we went into temporary winter quarters. We were engaged in a fight at Ft. Donaldson, Tenn., that lasted from 'sun-up until sun-down'. During the night we were surrounded and made prisoners.
Following the surrender of the 26th Mississippi Infantry Regt at Fort Donalson in February 1862, Lee escaped capture with many others and were absorbed into the 32nd Mississippi Infanty Regt. In January 1863 after the 26th Infantry Regiment was exchanged, Gen. Bragg ordered the members of the 26th who were in the 32nd back to the reorganized 26th. Lee was among their ranks.
I don't know the circumstances of Lee's escape at Fort Donalson, but one of my learned friends recently told me that Gen Nathan B. Forrest's Cavalry took one infantryman each with them when they made their escape.
Lee was born 1833 in McNairy County, TN, and died Aft. 1880 possibly in Corinth, Alcorn County, MS. Surviving the Civil War, he moved from Tishomingo County, MS to Logan County, AR.

Samuel was my GGGrandfather (on my father's maternal side). He migrated with his family from South Carolina, Alamaba, Tennessee, and finally to Mississippi. At the time of the Civil War, He lived in Tishomingo and later Acorn County in Mississippi. Several of his relatives, including one of his sons and brothers joined this Regiment. Samuel was also a member of K Company.
His regiment's first major engagement was at Fort Donelson, TN. The regiment was surrendered there on February 16, 1862 following several heavy Union artillery attacks and a failed attempt to breakout.
He apparently died as a prisoner of war March 25, 1862. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St Louis, MO.
