William Hill - Colonel
Was appointed Quartermaster General by Gen. Sterling Price. He served under Brig. General W. Y. Slack. He fed & clothed the army at Cowskin, Wilson's Creek, Dry Wood and Lexington. He was captured along with his son Joseph, in Johnson County, Mo. on Dec 19, 1861 and shipped to Graciot Prison in St. Louis where he contracted Typhoid fever. He was near death and released to a friend on Jan 20th, 1862. He was taken to the Olive Street Hotel where he died on Jan. 24th.

William was born in Kentucky in1833. He has 5 cards in his archival file. Enlisted 12 Oct 1862 in Howell Co. Mo. by Capt Febris for 3 years. He mustered 13 Nov 1862 at Mountain Home, Marion Co Ark. His horse is valued at $125 and equipment at $15. It is 25 miles to rendezvous. Joined Capt John W Jacob's Co. Burbridge's Regiment of Missouri Partisan Rangers which became Co F 4th Missouri Cavalry.
The history of this Regiment is one of heroic actions over evil...A great read if you want to know what the government can do to you if you are in their way...
William died 21 April 1914 and is buried at Uniontown, Crawford Co. Ark. May he rest in peace

Jesse Mede Wilks - 3rd Sergeant
Jesse was born 29 Dec. 1840 in Lauderdale County, Alabama. He has 4 cards in his archival file. H e enlisted 22 Jun 1862 in Capt. L.D. Robert's Co. Missouri Vol Cavalry. enlisted by Col. C. Good. On 9 Nov 1862 the unit was reconstructed at New Co I Burbridge's Regt. Missouri Cavalry. enlisted by Col. Standish for the war. The regiment was in the Trans Mississippi Dept. and attached to C Green's, Shelby's and J.B. Clark's Brigade. It participated in Marmaduke's Expedition, saw action in Arkansas, and Price's Missouri Operations. Poison Springs and Jenkins Ferry. The regiment surrendered June 1865. Commanders were Col. John O. Burbridge, L/Col. William J. Preston and Major Dennis Smith. Jesse died 21 Dec 1894 in Lawrence Co. Missouri. Buried in the Old Aurora City Cem. Aurora, Lawrence Co. Missouri. He was the father-in-law of my 4th cousin 2 x removed.
