Thomas J. Walters my great grandfather he joined the 31st Infantry and fought with them through all the major conflicts till muster out in 1865. He returned to Macon county, Missouri. He is listed in the 1870 census owning a large farm by 1880 however after the panic, his children are living with relatives,he is listed as divorced, his wife is living with her mother and father and is listed as a widow, he is listed as a coal miner. He died at age 92. I regret not knowing this until recently I would have enjoyed quizzing my mom for her memories of grandpa Thomas.
