James Goodwin - 2nd Lieutenant |
James Goodwin was born Thomas Benjamin Herbert in London on 17 Nov 1837.
He married at St Pancras Old Church on 10 Sep 1863 to Mary Ann James, yet enlisted in the 34th Regiment, New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on 7 Nov 1863.
His family were not aware of his emigration until he wrote to his mother from a Military hospital to tell her of his ill health. The next communication was from the hospital in Dayton, Ohio informing her of his death from consumption on 24 Oct 1887.
Unfortunately he was never spoken of by his family, perhaps he had done something wrong, we are unlikely ever to know.
