Born in Stutgart, Germany in 1818, came to US 1854 with his family. He served with his son of the same name. He was killed at the Battle of Secessionville, St. James Island, South Carolina on June 16, 1862. I am trying to find out where he is buried, any help would be appreciated.

Philip Kupferschmidt - Private
|
Philip Kupferschmidt was my maternal great-grandfather.
I have his original discharge, dated July 28, 1865. It shows his enlistment date as January 4, 1864, but this is really the date of his re-enlistment--original enlistment was July, 1861*, when the regiment was first recruited by Colonel Rosa.
*Per National Archives.
