My Great Great Grandfather was born on 4-3-1837. He enlisted in Northampton Co. N.C., 5-6-62, as a private in Co. D, 66th reg't N.C. Partisan Rangers; Co. C, 12th Bttn. N.C. Cav.; Co. C, 16th bttn. N.C. cav. Died in Hertford Co., 2-26-1909.

Doctor George Gaius Pender - Private   
Doctor or as most called him George was born abt. 1846 in Fork District, Wayne Co. NC. The 1860 census finds him here at age 13. He enlisted 1 Aug 1864 in NC and mustered with his Battalion in the field at HIcksford, Va. on 1 Sept 1864 enlisted bt Lt. Dees. This is during the Siege of Petersburg. His first action is at Pebbles Farm 30 Sept - 2 Oct. followed by the Appomattox campaign which saw fights at Belfield, Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie Court House, Namozine Church, Amelia Court House and the last fight at Appomattox on the 8th of April 1865. He had two family members in the same Cavalry Battalion. Due to battle losses, it went thru numerous consolidations. In Feb of 1865 it mustered 315 men and on 9 April 1865 it surrendered 48 men. He was the father-in-law of my great grand uncle. Bloods thin that far out but still kin. He died 8 Mar 1923 in Bay Branch, Florence County, South Carolina. Deo Vincice.
