A farmer from Martin County, North Carolina he volunteered for enlistment April 14, 1862, age 25. He was present for duty in surviving muster rolls-up to October 1864. He survived the war, returned to farming and died in Williamston, NC in 1919.

Died in July of 1864, in hospital in Richmond, Va., of wounds received in battle. I am unsure as to which one, but if I'm not mistaken, the regiment was in action around Bermuda Hundred at that time. Joeseph was the son of Samuel Woodard,(also of Co.'C', 17th N.C.)

Served in Co D, 17th Inf (First Organization) which was surrendered during their first engagement. Prisoner at Fort Warren, Boston Harbor. After release, rejoined the 17th (Second Organization) this time in Company C. Records indicate present for duty through October 1864. Survived, married and raised 7 children. Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Williamston, NC.

I have my ''Children of the Confederacy'' certificate dated 1949 that refers to my great grand uncle Samuel Venable Daniel Lt, Co. F, 17th NC infantry. I was just trying to find additional info about him, such as where he was born, when he died and where he might be buried. I did a google search and found his date of birth and his lineage down to me. I recognize my grandmother and her brothers and sisters.

Early contact between 17th NC Infantry and Union forces (1861) and prisoners taken, Price escaped and reformed with the 33rd NC Infantry--as a Pvt (rank in). See 33rd NC Infantry listing for more information. Originally from Rocky Mount, Price lost a leg and survived the war--Captain (rank out)--married and relocated to White, Arkansas. Seven - nine children (2 males). A 1 page post war memoire is available. Descendant surnames: Price, Woods, Martin, Mack, Freeland.
