Enlisted in Company H, 37th North Carolina Infantry on October 6, 1861, Gaston County. Originally thought to be killed in action in The Battle At Hanover Courthouse, May 27,1862. However, new evidence may prove that he was wounded in that engagement, transported to Richmond hospital, where he subsequently died. A grave marker at Hollywood Cemetery names a STOWE buried, but with no first name only that he was a North Carolina soldier. I am attempting to prove that this gravesite contains James Stowe's remains (for through the process of elimination, I have narrowed the chances of this being the case from 1-156 to 1-3. Will continue investigation.
