Jacob Bowman born Oct 9, 1825, oldest son, married Regina Salena Baker, lived in Alexander County at time of the war. Enlisted on Dec 8, 1863. Captured at Spotsylvania Courthouse May 10, 1864. Taken to Maryland and then imprisoned at Elmira Prison, Elmira NY. Transferred to Venus Point, Savannah River, Ga on November 15, 1864 in a prisoner exchange. After the war, Jacob and Regina had 7 children. William Pierce Bowman (1857)was my great grandfather. Others in family were S.C. Bowman (1859) Thomas Bowman (1862) prior to enlistment. Phillip Andrew Bowman (1866) Titus Bowman (1869) Harriet Bowman (1873) and Susan Bowman (1875). My Grandfather, Albert Gavon Bowman was the oldest of Pierce's children. Jacob had 5 brothers in NC 32nd Infantry. 1 brother )Polycarp) in NC 12th Infantry. 1 brother (Joshua Bowman)in NC 37th infantry. Wounded at Gettysburg, killed at battle of Petersburg. Brothers in the 32nd were: Abel Jackson Bowman Co K 32nd Infantry, killed at Gettysburg July 15, 1863. Jonas Bowman, enlisted Co D 32nd killed at Spotsylvania 5/10/64 David Bowman Co E 32nd wounded while overrun in the Muleshoe salient on 5/10/64. Leg amputated and died from infection. Simon Peter Bowman Co E 32nd died from disease 11/17/65 Joseph Lafayette Co E 32nd died 12/6/61, cause unkown.

He was born in 1836 and died in 1912 and is buried at New Hope Methodist Church in Lowesville, NC.

This was my Great Grandfather who was wounded in the Battle of 'Sayler's Creek' (AKA: Sailor's Creek/Hillsman Farm/Lockett Farm) by a shot to the head from a mini-ball on April 6, 1865. I am told he was present at the surrender at Appomatox, and walked home from there over the next two weeks to Buies Creek, NC in Harnett County.
