Company G
Jeremiah Twohig - Private
Jeremiah Twohig was 42 years old when he enlisted for the 5th OVC on February 14, 1865. His younger brother, Daniel, who was a 3 years service veteran of the 10th Ohio Volunteeer Infantry, enlisted with Jeremiah on the same day. I like to think that it was to keep an eye on him because of his age. They saw action in North Carolina together in the spring and summer of 1865 and They were mustered out on October 30, 1865. Prior to the war, he was a policeman in Cincinnati. After the war he served as town marshal in Avondale, Ohio a Cincinnati suburb, which is now part of Cincinnati. Another younger brother, Patrick, also served the same tour of duty as Daniel in the 10th Ohio, but did not join the 5th Ohio Cavalry. Jeremiah died 11/26/1876 and is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the Price Hill section of Cincinnati.
