Company A
Isaac Badgley - Private
Was listed as a deserter.

Civil War application 363563 Co.A 36 Ohio Inf., Minor Minnie Way September 17, 1887:

Private, Co. A, 36 Reg. Ohio Inf. Volunteers--Enlisted August 11, 1862 at Marietta for 3 years. Missed at Clarksbrg, Va., October 23, 1862 and reported deserted. No further history of this man. Muster-out rolls of Company dated July 27, 1865, Wheeleing W. Va, reports him deserted at above place Oct 25, 1862. In Minnie Way's Declaration Of Adult Child for Pension, dated November 1, 1887, she states that Isaac Badgley is deceased. In response to a petition to the War Department reqesting that the charge of desertion of Isaac Badgley be dismissed the Assistant Adjutant General, on August 4, 1888, stated 'The charge of desertion against the within-named soldier is of such a nature that final action thereon cannot be taken soley upon the record and papers in the place now before the Department'.

Note:

From the time Isaac enlisted in August of 1862 to the time he was reported missing in October, 1862, the 36th was involved in three major battles. The 2nd Battle of Bull Run, August 30, The Battle of South Mountain, September 14, and Antietam September 17. After the fight at Antietam the 36th marched back up north to the Kanawah Valley through Hagerstown, Md, Hancock, Md, and Clarksburg, Va. He reportedly deserted at Clarksburg. Perhaps because of the short time he was with the 36th and the intense conflicts they participated in, he had a change of heart about being a soldier. Undoubtedly he saw a lot of action in that short time. The 36th lost 140 men killed and mortally wounded.
