I would like to know more about what resources there are about this regiment.

I believe my ancestor Lewis Shirar was killed during the Knoxville campaign. He is buried in the Knoxville national cemetary. I'd like to know whre he joined the unit and where he died. I knowthe date was December 11, 1863.

Mustered out as Quartermaster Sergeant of the 8th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry

Co. G, 44th O.V.I. at age 21 on 20 Sep 1861. On 4 Jan 1864 he transferred to Co. G. 8th Cavalry. He was captured 11 June 1865 at the Battle of Beverly WVA. Mustered out 19 June 1865 at Camp Chase OH--veteran. If anyone has any pictures of the Ohio 44th OVI or the 8th OVC I would love to get a copy. These units are hard to find any pictures for even group photos. If any one has anything please reach out to me. I am Beverly's GG grandson and any information is welcomed! Thank you
