John Dougherty Warfel - Private
John D Warfel was my great grandfather. He was in the 71st for the duration of the war and served as a scout. He saw action in many skirmishes and at the battle of Nashville. It was enough to give him nightmares for the rest of his life.

Daniel Anders - Corporal
Daniel Anders was my Great Grandfather on my Mothers side. He settled near Pearson, Michigan (Kent County) as a farmer after the war, and raised a family of 12 sons and 1 daughter. His youngest son was my Grandfather who was only about 3 years old when Daniel Anders died in about 1900. According to his official records Daniel received two bullet wounds during the Battle of Shiloh. He served throughout the duration of the 71st Ohio, mustering out in 1865. Daniel was born in Clermont County, Ohio during a trip down the Ohio river to Iowa. The family later relocated back to Ohio in Celina, Ohio where Daniel's father (Samuel) was a carpenter. Daniels brother, George, also served as a Sargent in the OVI 71st Co H. George lived out his years in Celina, Ohio.
