Jasper Mauller - Private
|
Jasper was my great-granduncle, son of William and Mahala Mauller. He joined the 126th in Thorn, OH on Aug. 22,1862, at the age of 19. On January 1, 1865 he transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps, having received a gunshot to the left thigh. In 1890, following the death of his parents (with whom he'd been living), he moved to a Disabled Volunteer Soldiers' Home. His paperwork at that time lists his disability as both 'gunshot wound to left thigh' and 'impaired mind.' Indeed, after only 5 months, Jasper was transferred to the Government Hospital for the Insane, where he died two years later on Sept. 12, 1892.
