James Edward Burch

James was 34 Years old in 1890. I found one card in his archival file. He enlisted in Capt. Melchers Co B German Artillery, formerly Harm's Company 1st Regiment SC Arty. which was finally paroled as Co A Manigault's Battalion SC Arty. He was born 11 Feb 1826 in Darlington County SC. and died 11 April 1882 in Florence SC. His unit was assigned to the Dept. of SC, Ga & Fla. Battles: Charleston. Port Royal and the Carolina Campaign.

Sumner Pouncy Thomas

Sumner was 17 years old when he joined Capt W.R. Calhoun's Co. 1st Regt. SC Artillery. Enlisted 16 Mar. 1861 and mustered in at Fort Moultrie, Charleston on 18 May 1861. He was stationed on James Island in Charleston Harbor in Oct 1864. It is believed his unit saw service in Va. but I have not found documentation. He died at age 40 leaving a wife and 2 children. He was my 3rd cousin 5 x removed. Deo Vindice

John N. Karr

He was born in 1834 in DeKalb County, Georgia. He married Mary Elizabeth Brown. According to Georgia pension records he served in the 1st South Carolina Artillery. In the 1880 census he is listed as 'John M. Karr' and his occupation was carpenter. At that time, he was living in North Fulton County with his wife and three of his six children. He owned a farm house in the area that is now Chastain Park. He died in 1911 and is buried in Fulton County, Georgia.

Alfred Lundy

Alfred enlisted 7 Apr 1862 at Darlington, Darlington District SC. Enlisted by Lieut. Dargan for 3 years. His Regimental history gives his battles. He is captured and is on a Roll for paroled sick prisoners released 6 June 1865 after 'swallowing the Yellow Dog'. Captured at Cox Creek 4 Mar 1865. He died in 1878.

Joseph was 24 Years old when he enlisted on 1 Aug 1861 at Darlington South Carolina , Darlington Co Court House. Capt D.G. McIntosh's SC Vol's. [Pee Dee Rifles.] Then Co D 1st [McGreary's Vol. Inf. This unit was then assigned to Capt Zimmerman's SC Artillery,as Co. C of Manigault's Battalion South Carolina Artillery. Joseph is distantly related to me by marriage.

John M. Hudson, Pvt. Co. C, 1 (Orr's) S. C. Rifles, C.S.A., enlisted at Pickens C.H., S.C., July 1, 1862, was captured at Falling Waters (Gettysburg) July 14, 1863, and was paroled and exchanged at Point Lookout Md., Feb. 18, 1865, and was recieved at Boulwares & Cox Wharf, James River, Feb. 20 & 21, 1865.

Morgan Richard Sturges

Morgan was about 22 when he enlisted 11 Feb 1861 at Darlington SC for 12 months. He appears at Quarter Master on the Field and Staff Roll. He was in the fight that led to the fall of Fort Sumter. He reenlisted for three years at the fort. Oct 1863 finds him in jail in Charleston - charges pending. He is ordered released by the Commanding General. With the rank of Pvt. he is assigned to the admin office of Col Rhett. After the fall of Charleston men of this unit were assigned to Calvary and Infantry units.

John Wesley Coker

John was from the Antioch Community of Darlington Co.[ District] SC. He was 16 years old in 1860. He enlisted at the Darlington District Court House on 20 Dec 1862 in Capt Warley's Co. D SC. Vols. This Artillery unit became 1st SC Artillery, aka 2nd SC Artillery and was commanded by Officers Lamar, Alston, & Lamar's Battery SC Light Arty. as well as Inglis' Light Arty. [Manigault's Battalion SC Arty.] Reference: Siege Train... Confederate Artillery in defense of Charleston SC.... John Wesley survived the invasion and died at his son's home in Birmingham, Ala. 13 Apr 1915 and is buried by his wife in Darlington Co. SC.

Elijah enlisted at Columbia SC by Major Green on 8 July 1864. He was 25 years old. He was captured in the Marlboro District SC on 6 March 1865. He was sent to New Bern NC and on to Harts Island in New York Harbor where he died on 24 May 1865 of exposure and starvation. 1st buried at Brooklyn, Kings Co. NY. Grave moved to Cypress Hills National Cemetery. Plot 2874 [ No stone ]

Archibald was 23 Years old. He enlisted at Chesterfield, SC on 28 April 1862 for three years by Capt King. His CMR card for May - June 1862 states he was discharged at Fort Sumpter, and paid up to date on 27 June 1862. No reason in records for the discharge. It had to be for chronic illness or serious injury.

Hiram was born in Fayetteville, Cumberland Co. NC in 1840. He is about 22 when he is enlisted at Greenville, SC by Lt King on 29 April 1862. He is appointed Corporal 17 Oct 1862. He is on detached service several times viz: Aug 1863 detached duty in Fort Sumter, SC. Oct 1863 he is assigned as boat crew in Charleston Harbor. June 1864 on detached duty in Columbia, SC with Lt. Rhett. & Dec 1864 he is on detached duty at Regimental Headquarters. Battles: Sessionville, SC, 2nd Manassas, 2nd Winchester, Charleston Harbor, 2nd Fort Harrison, 2nd Fort Fisher, NC & Carolina Campaign. Paroled at Greensboro, NC 26 April 1865. He married my distant cousin Nancy Easterling. He died 20 May 1906 and is buried at Hebron Cem. Clio, Marlboro Co. SC.

Abijah Columbus Crawford

Pvt. Abijah Columbus Crawford Co. K, 1st SC Artillery, CSA was the son of David E. Crawford 1801-1865 & Mary Jane Jordan Crawford 1810-abt 1885 of Horry, SC. Abijah was one of 4 brothers that served in the CSA. He did survive the war, married Martha Moore & raised a large family in the Aynor, SC area. Abijah C. Crawford 1846-1900 is buried at Rehobeth Methodist Church in Horry, SC. He is my great-grand uncle via his youngest brother, John D. Crawford 1850-1906 (my GG-grandfather) of Galivants Ferry, SC.
