. Thomas D. DUNCAN was born 13 August 1823 in South Carolina, and died 16 January 1907 in Greene County, Tennessee. He married Sarah HALL about 1840 in South Carolina. She was born 15 November 1825 in South Carolina, and died 20 June 1907 in Greene County, Tennessee.

Born 4th Jan. 1832, died 21st August 1909. A native of Marion County, S. C. The second son and third child of Thomas and Rebecca (Gasquie) Fore.

Educated in the common schools of Marion County - reared and trained as a farmer, which he made the occupation of his life.

His home and farm were his universe, and there everything was well ordered and precise. His barn and smoke-house were never empty, and he was not annoyed by collecting agents.

At the commencement of the Confederate War, he enlisted in the 23rd S. C. Regiment where he rendered faithful service to the close of hostilities.

He was twice married: First to Miss Mary L. Kirvin to whom was born six children, only three of whom survive, to wit; Thomas E., Donnela and Mary Jane, all of whom are worthy members of society in their native county, and all parents of families.

The second marriage was with Mrs. Henrietta (Lane) Brigman, to whom was born four children, of whom three survive to wit: Joe V., Nina and Rebecca. Joe V. and Rebecca are married but Miss Nina remains single, being the youngest of the children. The wife pre-deceased the husband by only a few years having been paralyzed
prior to her death.

The oldest brother of H. J. Fore - Ely Fore - in early life went to Alabama to make his home, and although it is known that he raised a family there, little is know here concerning them.

The second in family, Elizabeth Ann, became the wife of the late Col. E. T. Stackhouse, and was the mother of several sons of prominence in Marion County.
The next younger brother, Thomas, went west and died there.
Daniel died in a Yankie prison during the Confederate war. Rebecca Jane became the wife of Dr. W. W. Hamilton, a prominent and worthy citizen of the town of Marion, and a survivor of the Confederate War (in which none rendered more faithful service): and the mother of Dr. Thomas W. Hamilton now beginning his career in the home of his parents and ancestors.
Rebecca Jane is now the only surviving member of this interesting family in Marion County, who (it may be parenthetically stated) has largely performed the part of a mother as well as a noble sister to the other brothers and sisters and also to the widowed father. It was at her home that J. H. Fore always sought comfort and rest during the declining days, and it was there he went to receive the last kind offices of earthly friends; there to her aged father lingered and died there;
a younger sister, Miss Eugenia, made her home for many years and during a long and painful illness was nursed until the time of her death;
there a younger brother Willis Fore was borne when crushed by a moving railroad train, and received the comforting care of this gently sympathizing sister until he breathed his last;
and it was there children Ed. M. Fore were taken for training and maintenance after his tragic death.

Tracy R. Fore, a younger brother, some years ago, moved with his family to the state of Florida.

Hugh was killed by shrapnel to the body at Petersburg.

Angus D. Douglass, born 6/22/1818. Owned a cotton plantation. He also served as a Constable, working with his brother Daniel Douglass while he was a Magistrate of Chesterfield Co., SC. Married Catherine Smith. Angus Douglass died of measles 8/19/1864, Petersburg, Va., while serving in the Confederate Army, buried Petersburg, VA.

Pvt. James P. Davis (Hatches Coast Rangers) 1839-1906 is buried at Old Town Cemetery, Marion, SC. He was the son of Benjamin S. Davis & Julia Franklin Avant of Marion SC. He served in the SC Legislature & Marion County Treasurer. His sister was my GGG (Ann Catherine Davis Collins Floyd).

H C Easler sometimes spelled Eastler also fought in the Mexican War. Would Love to here from any body that might have any additional info.

Captain Edwin White distinguished himslef and his unit on July 30, 1864 at the Battle of Petersburg by preventing the breach of the Confederate line during the explosion of the breastwarks known as the ''Crater''.
Capt ER White served in the SC Regiment from 1861 to 1865. He was captured at Dinwiddie Courthouse in April, 1865 and became a POW at Johnson Island until the war was over.

Enlisted 9/1861 along with 2 other in-laws&related(Cooks x2). Was in 2 different Companies, H/E. Was captured verified 1x @ Kinston NC 1. Have read and am trying to verify a 2nd capture. Was at Petersburg VA when the mine explosion happened and it killed plenty people in his regiment/regiments nearby. The Cooks were also present.

Was charged with desertion from Petersburg and was facing death and through various esteemed people in the county vouching, was acquitted.

Ben's CSA unit was 'Hatch's Coast Rangers'...He and wife, Mary Jane Roberts-Dove, are buried at Wesley Chapel UMC Cemetery in Lamar Co. Alabama. He has a CSA Heastone.

Commissioned as a Captain on 17 October 1861 at the age of 34.
Resigned on 5 July 1862.

James was born in 1834 in Marlboro District South Carolina. He enlisted as Pvt 12 June 1862 at Bennettsville, in aforesaid county in Hatch's Coast Rangers. aka [ Douglas Rifles ] This became Co G 23 SC Infantry. He has 22 cards in his archival file. His date of rank to 1st Sgt is unknown. He fought at Malvern Hill, Pappahannock Station, 2nd Manassas, Sharpsburg/Antietam, Siege of Jackson Miss. Bermuda Hundred, Petersburg Siege, The Crater, Fort Steadmen, Five Forks. Captured 3 April 1865 at Fairground Post Hospital at Petersburg, Va.
Wounded [ gunshot wound to right thigh and leg amputated] Admitted for wound 11 May 1865. He died 3 July 1865 and is buried near the hospital...site not marked. He left behind a wife and two small children...Deo Vindice

Robert was born 16 Aug 1825 in Bennettsville, Marlboro Co. SC. He enlisted 1 Nov 1861 in Hatch's Coastal Rangers which later became Co G 23rd SC Infantry. Elected to rank of Captain 17 Dec 1861. He fought the invaders until the end of the war. He has 7 cards in his archival file. He was the father in law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed [ Sarah Johnson Dupre ] He died early on 16 Jun 1866. Cause of death is not known but it is believed the stress and possibly wounds from the conflict led to an early death. He is buried at Brownsville Baptist Ch. in Blenheim, Marlboro Co SC.

William was born 10 Sept. 1842 in Blenheim, Marlboro Co. SC. He enlists at Bennettsville, Marlboro Co. SC on 17 Oct 1861 in Capt. R.C. Emanuel's Co. G which becomes [Hatches Co G Coastal Rangers] Mustered at Sessionville, SC. Assigned to General's Evan's, Elliott's & Wallace's Brigades. Captured at the battle of Five Forks on 2 April 1865 and paroled 27 June 1865.
Battles: 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Jackson, Mississippi, Petersburg, Crater, Fort Steadman and Five Forks where he was captured. He has 22 cards in his archival file. Even though young he suffered from rheumatism and reoccurring fever. He married my distant cousin Margaret Ellen Lewis.

Robert was 28 Years old, newly married with a small child. He enlisted in Marlboro District, SC on 24 March 1862. This unit was known as [Hatch's Coast Rangers.] He reenlisted on Sullivan Island at Charleston SC in March 1864. He suffered from Rubello and Febris Typhus. Wounded at Richmond Va, by gunfire to the back he is given a 30 day furlough on 20 July 1964. He was serving in Evan's Brigade. He survived the invasion and died 10 Feb 1913.

Elisha was 38 years old when he enlisted in Capt. R C Emanuels Co. [Hatch's] Coastal Rangers aka 23rd Regiment SC Infantry. Enlisted 17 Oct 1861 at Sessionville SC near Charleston. Appointed 1st Lieutenant 17 Dec. 1861. Served in and around Charleston before being sent to Virginia. Fought is 12 major battles and numerous skirmishes. Sent to Mississippi and was engaged at Jackson. Returned to Virginia and fought in the trenches at Petersburg. Va. Lost 47 men at the explosion of the Crater. Last fight was at 5 Forks. The men from Marboro County were known as the {Douglas Rifles] Elisha's wounds or disease is not disclosed but he died soon after on 24 April 1865. He was under extreme stress as he in his short life had lost two wives before the war. He had remarried. The stress of the war and personal losses ease him into an early grave... His two sons died young and left no one to carry on his name.

Silas was born near Bennetsville, Marlboro District SC 1842. He was 19 when he enlisted 17 Oct 1861. Enlisted in Capt E.C. Emanuel's Co. Hatch's Battalion , Coast Rangers which became Co G 23rd SC Infantry aka [ Douglas Rifles] He has 7 cards in his archival file. He was elected to 4th Sgt on enlistment and while assigned to Evans Brigade he was promoted to 2nd Lieut. on 19 Oct 1862 while at Hamlin's Farm in Christ Church Parish, SC. He died of unknown cause on 28 Aug 1863 while serving in Charleston Harbor, SC

William is 14 years old in 1860. He enters the conflict late. He enlists at Bennetsville, Marlboro Co SC. at age 17 or 18. He has 11 cards in his archival file. The date of enlistment is conflicted. 30 March 1862 at Wilmington, or Feb 1864 at Sullivan Island, SC. He is enlisted by S Leggett. His rank is given as Sergeant upon entry and as Pvt on cover CMR. If Feb 1864 is his entry date he served at Bermuda Hundred, Petersburg Siege, The Crater, Fort Steadman, Five Forks during the battle of Farmville, Va. on 6 April 1865 where he was captured. He was sent to New Port News Va and paroled. He died 22 Apr 1926 and is buried at the Spears Family Cem, Marlboro Co. SC. We are related by a distant marriage.

Erasmus was born 1830 in Marlboro Co. SC His Confederate service involves several consolidations: Enlisted 17 Oct 1861 from Marlboro County SC. as Pvt. in Capt R.C Emanuel's Co G. [Hatch's Coast Rangers] 4 cards, On 15 Nov 1861 this became Co G 23 Regiment SC Inf. 4 Cards. On 1 May 1864 it became Co E 19th Battalion SC Cavalry [ Capt A.D. Sparks SC Mounted Rifles aka Ripley Rangers] 12 cards, Mustered into Confederate Service as Co L 20th Regiment SC Infantry Vols. Then found in Capt Ellison S Keitt's Co Mounted Rifles and was transferred in Oct 1864 to Co. E 1st South Carolina Infantry [Butler's] . 2 Cards in archival file..
He saw service at the following battles: Malvern Hill, Rappahnock Station, 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Jackson, Mississippi siege. Bermuda Hundred, Petersburg Seige, Crater,Fort Steadman. Five Forks, Appomattox,
Erasmus died young at age 35 on 9 Feb 1865 sent to an early grave by the effect of the war leaving behind a wife and small children. He is buried at Hebron Cem. Bennettsville, Marlboro Co. SC. Deo Vindice

Enlisted as 4th Sergeant, later promoted 2nd Lieutenant, and finally Captain. Killed April 1, 1865, Battle of Five Forks near Petersburg, Virginia. Two younger brothers also served with him. According to Chronicles of St. Marks Parish, diligent inquiry could not ascertain his fate, but it was believed he was captured and killed while trying to escape. His widow told her granddaughter (my grandmother) that his body servant attended to him the day of the battle and then never saw him again.

He is my 3rd Great Grandfather.

B.Oct.16,1818 Lived in Manning SC before & after war. Enlisted May15,1861 at Camp Gracie. {Hatch's Coast Rangers.} Older brother of J.M. Rowe 5th SC Cav. & E.B. Rowe of 4th SC Cav.

Charles was from Sumter, Sumter Co SC Post office was at Lynchburg. He was 16 y/o in 1860. He joined and was mustered on 15 Nov 1861at Christ Church Parish in Capt T D Frierson's Co. K Hatch's Regiment Coast Rangers for 1 year. He reenlisted on Morris Island on 9 May 1862. He was plagued with chronic diarrhoea and hospitalized twice for same. Given 30 day sick leave for same Oct 1864 from Jackson Hosp. Richmond Va. he was serving in Elliott's Brigade. He fought in 11 major battles and numerous skirmishes. He is listed as a POW at the time of parole at Appomattox Va on 9 Apr 1865. He lived until 8 Nov 1916 when he died in the Confederate Soldiers Home in Columbia, SC. he is buried in the Mouzon family cem. in Mouzon, Wiliamsburg Co. SC. He was the father in law of my 1st cousin 4 x removed.
