Brother of Richard Baker and Joseph Crawford Baker.--
GREEN B BAKER Pvt. CO I 13th Regiment Texas Cavalry Enlisted 1 March 1862 Orange, Texas S. A. Fairchild--
Nov. and Dec. Age 22 years Remarks: Camp Nelson, Near Little Rock, Arkansas--
November 1862 Sick at Camp Nelson since 15 November 1862--
Crockett, Houston Co., Texas 1 March 1862 Muster in date 1 March 1862 Capt. S. M. Drake Period 12 mos.--
Miles to Rendezvous 181 Valuation of Horse 120.00 Equipment 30.00 1 March 1862
Where Orange Texas Capt. S. A. Fairchild
22 Years Old June 1862 Remarks: Detailed for Hospital Service July 24--
Green B. Baker only appears as 'Green Baker' one time, when he initially enlisted in Orange. All his other files (as you suggested) are under G. B. Baker. He was ill, probably with pneumonia, at Camp Nelson in Nov 62. As 'G. B.' however, he was present for duty on every muster through the war. The last regimental muster was at the end of Apr 65. Green is listed as 'on furlough since 4.12.65.' He was probably on leave when he married in Jul 64 to the widow of Kenchen King Stokes, also of Company I who had died of a disease in Lafayette Co., Arkansas on July 14th, 1862.--
The major battles of the Red River campaign were at Mansfield on 8 Apr. 1864, Pleasant Hill on 9 Apr. 1864, and Jenkins' Ferry, Ark. on 30 Apr. 1864. The Yankees withdrew from Louisiana by mid-May, and when Walker's division returned from Arkansas, many of the soldiers were allowed to go on leave.-- No soldiers from Company I appear on any of the casualty lists for these battles.

Joseph Baker Pvt. Capt. Samuel A. Firchild's Co., Burnetts' Regiment (My note: This would have been Co. I, 13th Texas Cavalry)
Age 18 years (My note: He must have lied about his age)
Appears on Company Muster-in Roll of the organization named above. Roll dated Crockett, Houston Co., Texas, 1 March 1862. Muster-in date: 1 March 1862. Joined for duty and enrolled When: 1 March 1862. Where: Crockett. By whom: Capt S.M. Drake. Period: 12 mos.
No. of miles to rendezvous 181. Valuation of horse: $150.00; equipment: $30.00.
Discharged 24 May 1862.
Joseph C. Baker was discharged from Co. I, 13th Texas Cavalry on 24 May 62 because of the new conscription act passed by the Confederate Congress in April 62, that exempted from service all men under 18 and over 35. Joseph is listed on the March muster as 15 years old. He had enlisted in Orange Co., TX on 1 Mar 62. He was discharged at Camp Burnett, near Porter's Springs, Houston County, Texas when the regiment was reorganized to comply with the new law. The age requirements were ignored later in the war when Joseph joined the 33rd Texas Cavalry, the same unit his older brother Robert P. Baker and joined.
