Wm. transferred to the 7th Va. Cav. at the end of his initial enlistment in the 4th Va. Inf. Wm was transferred to the 14th, 24th &25th Battalion and 35th Battalion Va. Cav and served three additional years. At the end of this enlistment he reenlisted in the 4th Va. Inf and remained there throughout the course of the war.

Born about 1841, Wounded in the hand and head while scouting for General Lee near Richmond, Va. and admitted to General Hospital No. 9 on May 27, 1864. He was transferred to Jackson Hospital on May 29, 1864 then transferred to Chimborazo Hospital on June 3, 1864. He died of his wounds on June 16, 1864.

Born about 1843, died about 1888. Buried at Enon Church Cemetery, Studley, Va. Enlisted 3/4/1862 in Richmond, Va. with the 40th VA Calvary Battalion Brother of Henry Chapman Tyler ( 24th Va Calvary ) who was shot in head while scouting for General Lee in May 1864 near Richmond, Va. Reuben listed as AWOL June 15, 1864, at the time his brother was dying he went to visit him then took his body home for burial. Reuben re-joined his unit July 20, 1864 then was captured and paroled from Libby Prison on April 21, 1865.

Gideon Starke - Private   
Gideon Starke, my great-great-grandfather, enlisted Mar. 18, 1862 at Camp Winder by Capt. Cosby when the unit was the 2nd Reg., VA Art'y. He only stayed with the unit until Jan. 6, 1863, the date he was recruited in Richmond by Maj. Wren of the 31st BN, VA Cav. Gideon was mustered into Co. B. where he stayed for the rest of the war. (31st BN then became 40th BN, VA Cav., July 16, 1863. 40th merged with 32nd and became 42nd BN Va. Cav., Sep. 24, 1863; then became 24th Reg. VA Cav., June 8, 1864). Gideon was captured at Sailor's Creek, April 6, 1864 with the 24th Reg. VA Cav. He appeared on the Roll of Prisoners of War at Newport News, processed at City Point, Apr. 14, 1865. He signed his Oath of Allegiance to U.S. (the learned, former school teacher signed his 'true mark' as an 'X') Jul. 3, 1865 at Newport News.

Joseph James Cutchin - Private   
Joesph James Cutchin enlisted in April 1861 in K Company of the 24th Virginia Calvary at South Quay, Virginia. He served for the duration of the war and was hospitalized in Richmond in September, 1864. He was paroled as a prisoner of war on April 25, 1865.He had two brothers, both of whom enlisted. His brother Adolphus enlisted at South Quay, Virginia as a member of K Company, 41st Virginia Infantry. He died August 6, 1862 at Winder Hospital, Richmond, Virginia. His other brother, Jordan Cutchin enlisted om May 15, 1861 at Norfolk, Virginia in Company A, 16th Virginia Infantry. He died on July 5, 1863 at or near Williamsport, Maryland as the Confederate armies retreated from Gettysburg.
