I'm trying to locate more information regarding Christian, he was my great-greatgrandfather, I know he lived in Yankton, SD in 1870 and in Rapides Parish, LA from at least 1889 to his death in 1894. He was born in Charleston, SC in 1837.

Found my Great Great Grandfathers record on ancestry.com, saying he died the the Battle of Gettsyburg, July, 1863.

Born in Unison, VA. Twice married. Survived by Miss Ella Furr Barton and two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Barton and Mrs. Eva Flynn; one son Mr. Charles Barton.

Served four years and was at Balls Bluff, Manassas, Gettysburg and according to the The Times Mirror, witnessed the John Brown raid at Harper's Ferry. Received no injuries but did lose two 'valuable' horses, one of which was shot out from underneath him.

Robert William Floyd (b: 14 June 1841) Enlisted in the Confederate Army on April 18, 1861. Served in Company 'C ' of 1st Dragoons, Rockbridge Co. VA Cavalry as a Private. From the beginning to the close of the civil war, and Served under Jeb Stuart & Robert E. Lee in the Army of Northern Virginia through all the long struggle, and took part in all its engagements, including first and second Manassas, first and second Fredericksburg, and the seven days fight around Richmond. He was captured July 3, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg. General George A. Custer of Little Big Horn fame was the Colonel who led Union Cavalry forces on that day against Robert's unit prior to his capture. Confined at Fort Delaware for three months, then transferred to Point Lookout, Md., on September 26, 1863. After some months he was 'exchanged' and re-entered service in March 3, 1864

George was appointed Quater Master (Commissary) Sgt. on August 23, 1862

Jehu was wounded three times during his years of service. Paroled by the Union Army at Staunton, VA on May 29, 1865.

Enlisted in Rockbridge County in 1861, furnished a substitute, Burnett Sweeney, in 1862. Buried Zollman Cemetary, Lexington, Virginia.

Transferred from 37th VA Inf to Co D, 1st VA Cav 04/05/1864. Killed at Battle of Hawe's Shop in Hanover Co, VA 05/28/1864.

John was my Great Grandfather, and is buried in my hometown of Bloomfield, Nebraska.

8/31/37 laborer, joined from Upperville VA PO. Enlisted 4/27/1861. Present until Wounded in Action Bull Run 7/21/1861. RTD. Present until detailed as courier 1-2/62. Present through 8/64. Wounded in Action 2 other times (Pension records shows wounded at Cedar Creek October 1864). Paroled Winchester 5/5/1865. Owned a medal 'Member Forrest Cavalry Corps' but unsure of the origins of this.

Abraham Billhimer of Keezletown, VA and his brother, Benjamin Franklin Billhimer, joined Co.I, 1st Virginia Cavalry during the Spring of 1861. Abe lied about his age in order to enlist and fight to protect his homeland of Virginia. Abe and Adam Koontz escaped capture near the end of the war after being pursued by a group of Union cavalry from Lacey Springs to Keezletown while on a reconnaissance mission. Billhimer and Koontz hid in the belltower of a church that stood in the SW corner of the future site of the Keezletown School parking lot.
Both soldiers avoided capture, however, they lost their horses
to the Yankees.
A short time later the 1st Virginia Cavalry was camping on the land of Mrs. Hile Billhimer. The ladies of Keezletown made fried apple pies and distributed them among the soldiers. As it turned out, each cavalryman received two pies. My Great-Grandfather, Abraham, ate one of his pies and put the other one in his tent for later. Upon returning to his tent, after a while, he caught another soldier, Harvey 'Harv' Sheets, eating his pie. Needless to say, a fight ensued and Harv bit off Abe's
middle finger at the knuckle on his left hand. In return, Abe gouged Harv in the eyes detaching one of them. From then on it is said that Harv was 'cock-eyed'. Both Abe Billhimer and Harvey Sheets are buried in the Keezletown Cemetery.

Born in Augusta County, Virginia in 1845. Enlisted as a Private in Company I, 1st Virginia Cavalry Regiment at Harrisonburg. Paroled at Staunton on 19 May 1865, along with his brother Clement. Died 9 Oct 1924.
