George Washington Bryant - Private

This gentleman is my great-great grandfather on my mother's side. This information I found on Ancestry.com, from a sworn legal government document where Mr. Bryant was signing up for veteran's benefits/pensions for those who served in the Confederate army. In his handwriting, he swore that he was in Company G, 19th VA regiment, Garnett's Brigade, Pickett's division'. He swore this document out when he was 66 years old, on August 24, 1903. The remarkable thing that I've found out is that this unit was part of Pickett's charge at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863...and he survived.

I got this small bit of information about my great great grandfather from a genealology report done of the Wray Family. He was mustered into service on May 20, 1861 in Charlottesville by Lt Col. W. H. Fry. Number of miles to place of muster: 40. His name appears on a roll of prisoners of war. He was sent for exchange from Ft. Delaware, Del. to Aiken's Landing, VA Oct. 2, 1862. Declared exchanged Nov. 10, 1862 at Aiken's Landing. Where taken prisoner: Williamsport. When taken: September 15, 1862. After that time there are only a couple of notes saying that he had hospital stays for 15 days from Jan. 19, 1865, in Wayside Hospital...snother earlier hospital stay in Feb, Mar, and April of 1863.
