Promoted to Full Corporal on 01 Oct 1862. Promoted to Full Qtr Master Sarg on 01 Nov 1863. Promoted to Full 1st Sergeant on 04 Nov 1864. Promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 07 Jan 1865. Mustered out on 02 Aug 1865. He was aide to Col Pennington of battalion staff at the end of the war.

Henry Sabin -- Home was Pomfret, CT and he enlisted 19 Nov. 1861 as a Pvt. He was mustered into Co. A.,1st CT CAV on 19 Nov 1861 and was discharged on 20 Sep 1862.

He was known by some as 'E.B.' Perry. He was my grandfather; yes grandfather. He died in 1905 thirty years before I was born. After the war he became a doctor in the small town of Melvin, Illinois and is buried at Gibson City, Illinois. He was discharged in 1864 at the end of his three year enlistment. I know little of his wartime activities other than what I have from the national archives. They did include a letter he'd written from the stockade where he had been held for drunkedness. Buried with headstone in the Poplar Grove National Cemetery. Killed at the battle of Five Forks, April 1, 1865 However, came across this information: buried 'Mrs. Gillum's house; Five Forks Capt. U. Thomas Harrison Sims previously served in Company B, 23rd NC Infantry (CSA). He was captured at Gettysburg (in the railroad cut) on July 1, 1863 and sent to Ft. Delaware POW Camp. He 'galvanized' to the Union as shown below. From the book “Connecticut: Record of Service of Men during War of Rebellion” Enlistment date October 1, 1863 Enlisted in F Company 1st Cavalry Company Connecticut. Deserted on 29 January 1864. Born: July 19, 1840 in Catawba Co., NC Died: unknown Buried: unknown Married: unknown Children: unknown Occupation: farmer

He was my great,great grandfather.He served first from his home state of Mississippi as a private in the 12 Mississippi Infantry.He was captured near Gettysburg and sent to Baltimore Maryland.He joined the union and was sent to Minnesota where he fought Indians.His discharge says he was a captain when musterd out.His tombstone reads First Sergeant.He is buried at Hampton Roads National Cemetery.
