7th Georgia Cavalry

Enlisted May 8,1862 in Augusta,Georgia with Capt. Russell.Pvt Norris was in Co.A 21st Battalion,Georgia Calvary until through consolidation of units he was transferred to Co.A 7th Regiment,Georgia Calvary.He was present on roll calls until June 11,1864 when he was captured during the Battle of Trevillian Station,VA. Pvt Norris was sent to Fortress Monroe June 20th and on July 25,1864 transferred to Elmira Prison,NY. Private John C. Norris died January 6,1865 at Elmira with chronic diarrhea and is buried in grave 1274 Confederate section,Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira NY.

Amos enlisted as a Private in August 1862 and served in White's Battalion,Georgia Calvary until the 21st,24th Battalions and Hardwick Mounted Rifles were consolidated to form the 7th Regiment,Georgia Calvary in February 1864.When the 7th was organized, he was assigned to company A. He was captured at the Battle of Trevillian Station on June 11,1864 when forces under Gen. Phil Sheridan attempted to cut the Virginia Central Railroad between Gordonsville and the Louisa Court House,Virginia.Private Waters was taken to Fortress Monroe,Point Lookout and then transfered to Elmira Prison,NY on July 25.1864. 2,973 Confederate prisoners died at Elmira.His death from typhoid fever complicated by pneumonia came on September 9,1864. He is buried in Lot 172 of the Confederate Section, Woodlawn Cemetery.His personal effects were listed as a hat and a pair of shoes. A.J.Iler,J.G.Moore and John Deal,all of Co. H of the 7th,were witnesses to the death of Amos Waters. His wife never remarried and is buried in the family plot at Macedonia Church Cemetery in Bulloch Co. Georgia. There is, next to her grave a stone which reads ' Memory of Pvt. Amos V. Waters Co. A 7 GA'

Manning was with The Miller,s Ranger,s He fought in several battles,he died on sept 11 1864 from the effects of the war.

Grandfather to Stella Mae (Wilson) Oliver. Enlisted June 15, 1862, killed in battle June 11, 1864 by Union forces.

Also known as 'Zacky T', he was from Madison Co. (Danielsville) and started with Randolf Rangers which became the 24th Cav Battalion until it got combined into the 7th Ga Cav on Feb 13, 1864. My Dad says 'Grampa Zachy walked back from Petersburg with some of the horses & mules just before the rest left to cover R.E.Lee's withdrawal from Richmond' Notes say he had lost his hearing in August 1864, due to a cannon shell exploding only 6ft away, at Ream's Station. Lots of details of the Regiment in a small book called 'The Gallant Little 7th' by John W. Latty, Broadfoot Publishing, Wilmington NC ; he is on page 128 and something about 'Randolf Rangers' is on page 31

MERRIMEN WAS FROM HALL COUNTY GA. HE WAS A JUSTICE OF THE PEACE AND SHERIFF AFTER THE WAR.MERRIMEN WAS IN A BATTLE WITH THE UNION 7TH.CAVALRY COMMANDED BY NON OTHER THAN GEORGE CUSTER OF LITTLE BIG HORN FAME. THE BATTLE WAS TREVILLIAN STATION,VA. MERRIMENS HORSE WAS SHOT OUT FROM UNDER HIM IN THE BATTLE AND HE WAS SENT HOME TO SECURE ANOTHER HORSE.MERRIMENS DAUGHTER IS MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER MARGARET(MAGGIE)ELANDER JONES GUEST WHO MARRIED WILLIAM G.GUEST OF THE 18TH.GA.VOL.INF.

Pvt, Co B, Hardwick Mtd Rifles & Pvt, Co H, 7th GA Cav Rgt. Died Sep 1890, Bulloch Co, GA. Buried in Upper Black Creek Cem, Bulloch Co, GA.

Captain Hines fell at the Battle of Trevilian Station, June 1864. He had been the Commanding Officer of Company B, Hardwick Mounted Rifles. One of the two delegates from Bryan County to the Georgia Secession Convention. Voted in favor of secession.

Mitchell Sikes originally joined Capt J.L. McAllister's Co., Hardwick Mounted Rifles (unattached), Co. S. Later they consolidated with several other Cavalry units. Records show Mitchell with the 7th Ga. Cavalry in Co. H and in Co. S. He was wounded and admitted to a hospital in Salisbury, NC on Jan 24, 1865 and returned to duty Feb. 11, 1865.

James M. was my great grandfather. He and 6 of his brothers served in the Confederate Army. Four of his brothers did not survive the war.

Originally joined Hardwick Mounted Rifles, Co B. Later this unit consolidated with the 24th Battalion Ga. Cavalry and four companies of the 21st Battalion Ga. Cavlary on or about Feb 13, 1864 and formed 7th Reg't Ga. Cavalry. Mitchell is shown in Co. H and Co S.
