William H. Brown was a Sgt Major in Co C. On 12 Sept, 1864 was 'elected' to 1st LT. I have the original field order of 12 Sept, 1864. 1 other name is on the field order for promotion: 2nd lt H. G. Lamar, promoted to Capt.

Not related but have his canteen he carried in War Between the States. He was killed at Chancelorsville in 1863.

Wiley William Hickman was born in Monroe County Georgia about 1833. He enlisted in the 45th Georgia Infantry Co D, McCowan's Guards, March 4th 1862. Wiley's unit was part of the Army of Northern Virginia under AP Hill's 3rd Corps involved in many battles. Wiley was wounded at the battle of the Wilderness May 6 1864 and was evacuated to Knight's Hospital in Lynchburg VA where he died of complications from his wounds. He was buried in the Old City Cemetery line 8 Row 5 Lot 198 January 19, 1865.

Richard was born in 1828 in Taliaferro Co. Ga. He was 33 when he enlisted in Forsyth Co. Ga in the 45th Ga. Infantry [McCowen Guards]. He has 16 cards in his archival file. He served in Capt. White's Company. He suffered from Rheumatism. After enduring many battles beginning with Hanover Court House, Gettysburg and into Weldon Railroad, he was granted a medical discharge only to be assigned to the invalid corps. He was discharged from the Invalid Corps on 15 Oct 1864. He married Martha Ann Ross in 1849. He died 1 Feb 1912 and is buried in Berrien Co. Ga. He was the father-in-law of my distant cousin.

Believe he joined in May '62. Brother William transferred from the 53rd GA in May '63 to join him.

J.I. Johnson was my grandmother’s grandfather and I have visited his grave (south of Lawrenceburg, TN). In July 2011, I stood where the 45th was deployed during 2nd Manassas and plan on visiting Fredericksburg (where he was wounded) in 2012 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the battle.

Samuel was born 7 June 1834 in Jones Co, Ga. He enlisted at Clinton, Jones Co. Ga. on 4 Mar 1862. He suffered from Remittent Fever and Dysentery for some time during his service requiring hospitalization. He received a 30 day sick furlough beginning 17 Feb 1865. His first battle was Hanover Court House Va and his last was the Breakout of the Petersburg Line 1 Apr 1865. Surrendering several days later 9 April 1865 at Appomattox.

James Michael Moore was my paternal great grandfather and was a Private in Company F, 45th Ga. He was born in June, 1845 and died in Crisp, County in 1929. He is buried at the cemetary in Arabi, Georgia.

Enlisted 4March1862 in Clinton ( Jones County ), Georgia KIA 26June1862 in Mechanicsville, Virginia Site of burial in Virginia is unknown. 17 years of age.

William Franklin Moore was my paternal great great grandfather, son of James Michael Moore, and was also in the 45th Ga. Co. F. He was too old for active service and was stationed at the munitions factory in Augusta, Ga. during the war.

He enlisted in this unit in Clinton, GA where he made his home, and was paid a bounty of $50.00 to join. I have a letter from him written '3 miles north Richmond Va' on 'Saturday May 31st 1862'. He died on July 21, 1862 as a result of exposure during battle. He is buried in some unknown place in or near Richmond, Virginia. He was born May 20, 1839.

Enlisted as a Private on 3-04-1862. Company F,45th Infantry Reg.Georgia. Wounded 03 July 1863 at Gettysburg,PA - arm wound. POW 3-25-1865 Virginia. Released June 16,1865 at Point Lookout, MD.

Have no information on this distant relative. The surname Cozart is one of the more common of the hundred or so variants of the original surname Cossart. This person may be the same as Priestly H. Cozart, serving in Co. A of the 20th GA Infantry, and P. H. Cozart, serving in Green's GA Infantry. Would appreciate learning any info others may have on this individual.

Davis, John Gamble -- Enlisted as a private in Company C, 1st Regiment, Georgia Infantry, (Ramsey's,) June 20, 1861. Mustered out at Augusta, Georgia March 18, 1862. Enlisted as a private in Company H, 45th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, April 22, 1862. Appointed Sergeant Major April 1862. On furlough September 28, 1862 -January 3, 1863.

Captain William Mazyck Davis, Company H, was wounded on June 26, 1862 at the Battle of Beaver Dam Creek, also known as the Battle of Mechanicsville, and lost his leg. His son, John Gamble Davis, also served in Company H

The Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865 has a question mark by his name, meaning “service incomplete or cannot be certified.”

Enlisted as a private in 'Byars Volunteers' of Butts Co., Ga. Died at Orange Court House and buried at Lynchburg Cemetery

Henry enlisted on march 4th, 1862. He was captured at Petersburg Va on March 27th 1865 and was released June 16th. He had 11 children (including my grandmother) and died in Lonoke, AR at the age of 55.
