Born 03/26/1836 in Telfair Co. Georgia to John Bryan Coffee (b. 01/08/1814 in Telfair Co. Georgia) and Rebecca Willcox (b. 10/02/1817 in Telfair Co. Georgia). John enlisted as a private 4 March 1862 in Company B, 49th GA Volunteer Infantry, soon to transfer to Company H. He surrendered at Appomattox, VA 9 April 1865. John died on 13 September 1899 at the age of 63. He is buried in Coffee-Harrell Cemetery, Dodge Co, GA. National Archives Microfilm Box, Roll, and Record: 000226, 0013, 00000116. Married twice with 4 children. Died 09/03/1899 in Rhine, Dodge Co. Georgia. (3rd Cousin 4 times removed)

Lucius was a 3rd Lieutentant when he joined this regiment in 1862. By the end of the war he was a captain.

My first cousin four times removed...Wounded at Gettysburg and killed in the battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864...I have found no record of his grave....I think he may be buried in one of the mass graves where they buried many confederates after the battle....He was 21 years old....

Mustered into unit on March 4, 1862 as a Private. Appointed First Corporal on August 7, 1863. Wounded by concussion of an exploding artillery shell at Gettysburg on July 3, 1864. Died in 1897 and rests in Mount Zion Cemetery near Dade City, Florida.

Jacob was my great-great grandfathers brother. He enlisted on May14, 1862, was wounded on December 13,1862 at Fredericksburg and became a POW on May 6, 1864 at Wilderness, Va. Was exchanged on February 20, 1865 at Boulware's Wharf, Va. Furloughed home on April 15, 1865.

Jacob was born 2 Oct 1838 in Irwinsville, Irwin Co. Ga. He has 22 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 4 March 1862 when the Regiment was forming at Irwinsville, Ga. He was wounded 9 Aug 1862 in the battle of Cedar Mountain Va. Extent of injuries not stated. He rejoined his Regiment and was appointed to rank of 4th Corporal on 1 Nov 1864. He served with Thomas's Brigade A.P. Hill's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of North Virginia. He was involved in 18 major battles including Gettysburg, He married Sealy " Celia" Ann Hogan and died 27 May 1922. They are buried at Chipola Primitive Baptist Church, Altha, Calhoun Co Fla. He applied for a pension and it was granted. We are related by a distant marriage / no blood but married in kin /

Enlisted on May 16, 1862. Died on July 28, 1862 in Richmond of dysentary. One of three sons of Benjamin and Lydia Mimms to die of war related injury/sickness.

Holmes, Green H. - private Enlisted May 5,1862. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pa. July 3, 1863. Captured near Petersburg, Va. March 25, 1865. Released at Point Lookout, Md. June 28, 1865. Named his son Mark Newman Holmes. No doubt in honor of his 2nd Lieutenant Mark Newman. They were both captured at Petersburg, Va and must have had a close friendship.

March 12 1829 - Feb 12 1912 Private, Co. H, 49th Georgia Infantry, Army of Northern Va. According to National Archive records, he stood 5 ft 11 inches tall, was of fair complexion with blue eyes and by profession a farmer. Enlisted March 4 1862(3?). He had been in the hospital off and on during 1863 from chronic illness, resulting in his discharge due to disability March 1 1864. 1902-1907 he applied for pension. He died 1912 having been married twice, widower once, and the father of nine children, seven with his second wife Margaret M. Stroud Moxley, daughter of John 'Jack' Stroud (private, Co H, 48th Georgia Infantry, Army of Northern Va.) His widow, Margaret M. Stroud Moxley applied for widow's pension 1917-1918. She passed away in 1925.
