7th Illinois Cavalry

Enlisted in September, 1861; mustered out in July, 1862. Enlisted in September, 1862 in 92nd Illinois Infantry and became a commissary sergeant. 92nd subsequently became a mounted infantry regiment that was assigned to Wilder's Lightning Brigade. The regiment was often detached for independent assignments, including at Chickamauga where it was assigned escort for Gen. Reynolds and performed conspicuous service at the Brotherton Farm along the Lafayette Road. Waterbury later became a lieutenant in the 16th USCT.

Inlisted in Paris, IL, 3rd Calvary, 7th Regiment, Co. A, on Aug 10, 1861. Died in Overton Hospital, Memphis , TN, July 19, 1964.

I also possess his Civil War Pension Record which contains of others in his unit.

I possess his discharge papers along with his wedding, funeral and other papers. He was my great, great Grandfather. I also possess his money belt, worn during his Civil War service. He enlisted on October 8, 1864 to serve for one year and was discharged in Huntsville, Alabama on October 19, 1865.

Enlisted as a Private on 2 February 1864 at the age of 18. Mustered in Company H, 7th Cavalry Regiment Illinois on 14 April 1864. Drowned on 17 October 1864 in the Mississippi River.

Deserted Co.B 37th NC. 3/8/65.On April 11,1865 William joined Co.H 7th Illinois Cavalry.He served till Sept 15,1865, mustering out at Huntsville Ala. and drew a Federal pension for his six months of service. 2nd cousin 3 x removed. Died in 1921,in Denver,Colorado. 18 years old,5'5',dark hair,dark eyes,a fair complexion,a farmer,mistakenly listed as being born in Illinois.

Enlisted as a Bugler on 07 September 1861 Enlisted in Company H, 7th Cavalry Regiment Illinois on 20 September 1861. Promoted to Full Saddler Sergeant.

I am going through Civil War letters from soldiers in and near Fairview, Fulton County, ILLINOIS. I read in a letter from Simon B.Beer that their Colonel's name was Opdyke. Also, Sylvanus Alpaugh's captain was a Captain Ferguson or Epperson from Red Wood, Iowa. Would like to know how to research these names.
