My Great Great Grandfather was in Co.E 12th Infantry.

this was my great grandfather from galena, ill. jo daviess co in the history of jo daviess co dated 1878 he was listed as galena's first offering on april 18, 1861 . he fought at ft fort donelson, pittsburg landing, corinth, and also was with sherman's march to the sea. he mustered out at louisville, ky. july 10, 1865. he lived the rest of his life in galena, il. and died on may 29, 1891. he is buried with his wife in greenwood cemetery at galena, ill.

Cassville, Wisconsin, 1861-63, Wounded

Mustered in Aug 1, 1861. Participated in battle at Fort Donelson, battle of Shiloh, and siege of Corinth. KIA on July 22, 1864 in battle for Atlanta.

He was wounded four times, twice at Shiloh, once before Atlanta, and at Altoona, where he was left for dead on the field of battle.

Frederick enlisted as a Pvt. in Co. I May 2, 1861 for 3 months & in Co. G Aug. 1, 1861. He served in the Seige of Corinth, MS and was discharged (due to disability) at the rank of Sgt. Aug. 12, 1862. He d. 16 Jan., 1864 at the age of 24. He was a son of Mary (Drake) Wood Clark.

Born 30 Jan 1818.Commissioned a Captain 25 Apr 1861 K Co. 12th Illinois. Executive Officer 12th Illinois at battle of Shiloh. 24 Apr 1862 promoted to Major Mar 1865 brevet promotions to Lt Col, Col, Brig General Campaigns:Tennesee-Ft Henry,Ft Donelson,Shiloh Mississippi- Corinth Georgia- Resaca,Rome Crossroads, Dallas (1st & 2nd battle at Picket's Mill, Kennesaw Mountain, Nicojack All of these were engraved on his scabbard plus 'Besides many skirmishes amounting to near forty' Died 20 Jan 1892.

Son of John Jacob Jr. & Elizabeth 'Betsy' (Glenn) Weidenhamer, born 2 Aug 1848 at Camp Point, Adams County, Illinois. Mustered in 14 Oct 1864 as a substitute; mustered out 10 Jul 1865. Fought at Bentonville, where there was heavy skirmishing in his part of the line. Occupied Goldsboro and Raleigh, then moved on to Richmond and Washington D.C., where the 12th marched in the Grand Review Parade. (My thanks to Gary Muffley for history on the 12th Illinois Regiment). Family oral tradtion states that when John Chancey's father, John Jacob, was drafted later in the war (after he had already been discharged for disabilities), and was unable to serve due to ill health, John Chancey enlisted to serve for him at the age of 16.
