17th Illinois Infantry

Says William Prouty enlisted in the 17th Illinois, served in Tennessee and Georgia and in 'March to the Sea'. He was taken prisoner at the Franklin, Tennessee confined at Andersonville Prison where he suffered horrors for four months. He died in 1902.

Promoted to full Corporal. Received a pension. Enlisted as a Private on 14 August 1862. Enlisted in Company B, 117th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 19 Sep 1862. Mustered Out Company B, 117th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 5 Aug 1865 at Camp Butler, Springfield, IL.

Alinus was the son of Alinos Matthews and Catherine Bovee, he was born Feb 01, 1832, Mayfield, Fulton Co., NY, grew up in Freehold, Warren Co., PA and d. Minneapolis,MN, Feb 14, 1914, Minneapolis, Hennipen Co., MN. He married Jennie/Jane Taylor on Sep 30, 1863, LaCrosse Co., WI. Both of his grandfathers, Eliada Matthews and Nicholas P. Bovee served in the Rev. War.
