60th Illinois Infantry

Volunteered as a wagoner in 1861 and was mustered out due to illness in April 1862. Reenlisted later and finally mustered out in 1865.

Greenmore enlisted on Feb. 17, 1862 at Wayne County, IL. He re-enlisted, Feb 17, 1864 at Rossville, GA. He was mustered out with his regiment on Jul. 31, 1865 at Louisville, KY.

Azariah Dixon's parents were my great, great, great grandparents.(Tilman and Patsey McGlasson Dixon). Azariah Dixon died Feb. 17, 1865 at Savannah, Georgia of disease. He is buried at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina, Section 7, site 512. Little is known about Tilman Dixon's ancestry.

William Mattoon born Ohio in 1845, William was the son of John Wesley Mattoon a physician. He joined as a private Dec. 26 1861 from Richland Co, Illinois. His brother Herbert C. Mattoon joined at the same time as William. William recieved a disability discharge on 05 Nov. 1862. He later went to school and became a Lawyer.

Lafayette Sams died in Murfreesboro, Tn.

Mustered into the 60th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers, Company F, as a 1st Lieutenant, 30 years old, on December 24, 1861, at Jackson County , Illinois, for a period of 3 years. Enlistment certificate called him a 'native of Illinois' (although Rhoda Jackson said he was raised in Tennessee). Muster in Roll was taken 17FEB, 1862, in Jonesboro, Illinois. 28Feb 1862 present promoted from a pvt 1 JAN1862 Mar/Apr 1862 absent- sick since 1 Apr62 by order of Col S.C. Foles (Siege and Assault of Island No. 10) May/Jun 1862 present (Hallecks move on Corinth April 28th-May 28th) General Pope's army had several fights with Confederate Generals Bragg and Van Dorn. Battle's of Farmington Mississippi. Jul/Aug 1862 present, sick in hospital Sep/Oct 1862 absent, sent to General Hospital, Tuscumbia, AL 1SEP62 As a 1 LT he tendered his resignation on September 27, 1862, at Ft. Walleck, Kentucky, due to poor health. The unit surgeon confirmed this. He mentioned being paid last in Tuscumbia, Alabama on July 1, 1862 by a Major Lowery. His Regiment Commander was Col S.C. Foles. Mustered out: Reassigned at Corinth, Mississippi, September 1, 1862. Muster-out Roll March 14, 1865, Fayetville, NC.

Greenbriar enlisted, Mar.30, 1864 at Spring Green IL. He died at Cumberland Hospital, Nashville, TN Jul. 12, 1864 of typhoid fever. He is buried in Nashville National Cemetery - Section H. Lot #9991.

Henry enlisted on Dec. 12, 1861 at Wayne County, IL. He re-enlisted on Feb. 18, 1864 at Rossville, GA. He was mustered out with his regiment on Jul. 31, 1865, Louisville, KY.

This is my wife Dorothy's ancestor. After the war he moved to Indian Territory in what is now Southeast Oklahoma.

Enlisted as a Private on 8 November 1861 at the age of 25. Mustered in Company K, 60th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 17 February 1862. Mustered out on 14 March 1865.
