Part of Col John T Wilder's Lightning Brigade, who pioneered the idea of Mounted Infantry. They were one of the first units to use the Spencer repeating rifle, and consequently were able to perform well against larger units opposing them. Their action at Alexander's bridge at Chickamauga, a perfect example.

Albert Harvey lived in Kansas after the war. He died in Cherryvale Kansas in 1939. I have his chair he used on the front porch. It sits in my business office,and prompts me to think of my family.

My great grandfather was a sergeant in co. F of the 98th Illinois, I amtrying to locate records which may show discharge informationa nd etc. He enlisted with his brother Simeon in sept. 1862, however I have not found a discharge date.

Served in 98th Illinois Mustered in Sept. 3, 1862 until mustered out June 27, 1865. Died, March 7, 1870, as a result of Chronic Bronchitis Contacted at Bledsoe Creek in December of 1862 but remained on active duty through the war.

Enoch Johnson is my Great grand father, was shot on Sept 20, 1863 at Chickamauga Georgia, and later was discharged July 6 1864

Born 1841 Ebenezer mustered into the 98th on 3 Sept 1862 at Dillborough, Iowa, USA. 7 Oct 1863 he was wounded at the Battle of Farmington Tennessee. He Died in Bowling Green, Warren, Kentucky and was buried at the National Cemetery in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee. He left a widow Hanna Jenkins Bostic. He was one of five Bostic brothers that served the Union during the Civil war.

Born in 1837 Richard Mustered into the 98 on 3 Sep 1862, at Dillborough, Iowa, USA. He mustered out 27 June 1865 at Nashville, Davidson County Tennessee, USA, one of five Bostic Brothers to serve the Union during the Civil War.

Enlisted as a private from Newton, Illinois on Sep 3, 1862. Applied for a pension on Apr 17, 1891.

Cpl. Charles Francis Marion Morey is my Great-Great Grandfather. He was wounded during the war in his hand which produced a hole that he would entertain my grandfather with by pulling a hankerchief through. He died in 1902 and is buried near Yale Illinois.

Was killed along with 7 others and 75 wounded Sept. 8, 1862 at Bridgeport, Ill. in a train accident as the Regiment was moving to Louisville, Ky.
